I'm already never going to be able to own a home, so this is just another reason to add to the pile. We simply have to wait until our parents die and housing supply comes back on the market at lower rates. Or we kill our parents and take their houses.

Browse around some online county tax maps and see how many homes are owned by "Life Estate of So-and-so". The reverse mortgage vultures already bought them all with bets that they'll die soon.

If properly maintained they look imposing as the state should look. If poorly funded, they look it with rapid deterioration and lack of cleaning.

To be able to reasonably afford a house in Fairfax County near a metro stop I have to DINK it up hardcore. Like uh, 250k/household to even really consider it. They just built about 60 townhouses down the road and they range from 1-1.25m a pop.

I don't even know what a single family with a yard would cost around here. There's a lot across the street that has a literal shack on half an acre and it's listed for 600k (obviously that's the land price). Not quite SF property values but pretty close. I am right down the road from McLean proper though, which is largely single family McMansions and Saudi compounds.
