Well if I'm reading this right then they're doing recalls because they're running out of gear. And if they're running out of gear it makes sense they wouldn't issue it to people if they didn't have to.

I’ve applied for a nurseO position at my local reserve unit and it’s been a really interesting experience. In the year and a half since contacting the unit I have dealt with 4 different recruiters, 2 who never contacted me back. One was great and managed to get me connected with the local infantry unit to do my force test but they left and their replacement is a ghost. A friend who was previously in the unit and has contacts there said that the turnover has been wild and he didn’t know who to get a hold of for recruiting anymore.

I’ve been told they have a lot of vacancies for this position by both the former Fd Amb recruiter and the infantry recruiters... what is the best way I can actually help fill one of them? Would asking the infantry recruiter who did my force test and seemed to be a competent individual be helpful at all or would this break some unspoken code?

Unfortunately the byproduct of the recruiting bureaucracy is that you'll be on a goose chase some of the time, especially for reservists. If I were you I would contact anyone I could to move your timeline up. I wouldn't worry about contacting recruiters, it's literally their job and they'll probably forget about you the next day.

I did this and the recruiter contacted me to say he contacted the fd amb ppl and if they didn’t contact me in a week I can contact him again and he will try again.

The reserve recruiting system recently went through a bit of an overhaul, unfortunately health services is still in it's own little weird world on the recruiting side from what I understand. Hang in there! As much as we whine and moan about the military here it can be an excellent experience.

In other news, what's everyone buying with their sweet sweet BOOTFORGEN money? I'm thinking a second set of AKUs (Coming in at exactly 15cm measured from the footbed to tallest point of boot...)

You’ll need to get pre-approval from your BOR for the claim. Lots of troops running out and buying boots on 15 Aug without it.

BOOTFORGEN and the direction on the Defence Team webpage spell this requirement out pretty clearly though. 3 Div has since published their own direction too, BLUF: wait out.

It wasn't me, but we had a couple people from our unit just take off on a TD halfway across the country without claims initialized, and now they're asking us for advances because they can't afford the hotels or meals. I was getting a little too specific with the details in that post and realized I was just venting frustration.

Nevertheless, a lot of heartache can be saved if you just visit your OR before going on TD/course. You're building a rod for your own rear end if you try try and do that poo poo later. These guys didn't even have an individual travel authorization/DND2999 done.

We had a guy move out of his apartment before a 6 month deployment. There's a ridiculous housing shortage here, with 78 people on the Pri 1 list for PMQ's, and mod tents set up because there's not enough shacks. Why the gently caress would you give up your apartment :psyduck:

(Redacted). Turns out it was one for the summer while the cadets were here. There's places here, but the shortage has really driven up costs. A 2 bedroom apartment is maybe $1,200-$1,300 and climbing. Without PLD, it can be tough if you're first moving here.

The cost of living is otherwise reasonable, and it's a beautiful place to live. It's not uncommon for people to transfer to the reserves so they don't get posted out.

That's why I made this thread, venting about non-OPSEC stuff is good. Plus every time I have this niggling wish to walk into Moss Park Armories and see if they're looking for reserve officers in 7TOR I just read back through this thread and laugh at my stupid idiot self.
