I don't see why we need to change. Our factories are still making money and the children who work in them have never needed to read before.

Royalists.

1. The Khedive has as much a right to rule as any of us. The sultan was granted his divine right by the merit of his forefathers securing Iberia. The Tirruni's of Barcelona were granted their right by the merits of Tirruni I's conquests. The heir of the Khedive is no different. And if, for some reason, he decided to preposterously betray us for the Moroccans after granting him autonomy, well, he'd have done that if we tried to depose him anyways.

2. I've said it before and i'll say it again. The Straits. Narbuna. Sardinia. Palermo. Occitania. Al-Andalus is not whole, and the Royalists are the only ones who don't pretend otherwise.

3. We must stop this slide into weakness. Granting wages, disgusting Imperialist bills that abuse their system to deprive Andalusi of their rightful Royalist votes, and who knows what they, or their Socialist lapdogs, would pull next if they get another term. Al-Andalus has held on as the greatest state on the planet in spite of the gibbering liberalizing masses, but if we don't strike back soon then we'll end up like the Celts.

On the other hand, voting in socialists makes no sense. The last time you folks tried something like this, you unironically passed a bill demanding max loans be taken out, and helped cause the complete dissolution of the Al-Andalus state.

Yes, and it was wonderful!

Moderates in large part because, as the Majlis, we have literally no interest in allowing a socialist utopia. I'm pretty sure they're still banned as a political party, even.

They explicitly are allowed, that's why we can vote for them. It's the Communists that are banned from holding seats in the Majlis, which is why we can't vote for them.

It’s a repeat of the goons voting down a constitution for Wiz’s Hohenzollern LP all over again. Some of them legitimately want us to remain a reactionary hellhole while others are holding out for something better (hint: nothing better is coming).

The only difference is that in Al Andalus, there is also apparently a lot of concern trolling from the literal conservative monarchists running on a platform of stripping citizenship rights from Iberian minorities that maybe the socialists don’t care enough about black people in our African colonies.

It's not a platform of stripping citzenship rights, it's a platform of not giving any more rights than what they currently have.

The ruling Imperialists are currently Full Citizenship, while the Moderates' citizenship policy is Limited Citizenship. The Moderates will actively be rolling back political and social rights for non-accepted cultures.

They wouldn't have this problem if they actually spoke the good andalusian tongue and followed the good andalusian customs. Besides, it only affects elections, and barely affects people of non accepted cultures because they most of them are poor and can't vote anyway.

Yeah, the Moderate platform has fewer benefits than the Socialist platform, and far more risks, including another hellwar with a Russian coalition.

Al Andalus has the Iberian peninsula, extensive African holdings, and even south Asian holdings. It's a perfect time to consolidate our position and develop the land and people.

I'm going with Moderates because it makes more narrative sense, to me. While the socialists have been gaining power, there hasn't been a pressing reason to vote them into the Upper House.

SlothfulCobra
Mar 27, 2011

If the thread cared that hard about rights for the people, they would've gone socialist at a point where the fate of the world was dangling in the lurch. Hell, even the last election would've been a perfect time for socialism. The socialists could've gained enough ground on Morocco and France to peace out quickly for Iberian unification before the alliance got wrecked by Russia.

But no, it's always been too risky, and you've always needed just a bit more colonial territory. There's no such thing as pretty colonial borders. Don't act like the constant push for more dominion was somehow egalitarian, and don't make up things about monarchism when all the parties nominally support the sultan and there's a literal royalist party.

Of course, the frustration here is also uncomfortably reminiscent of certain events in the real world where people are always waffling about it never being time for socialism, but in the real world I'm still anti-isolationist either way.

The most dangerous piece of the Moderate agenda is their stance on the khedive. Where do you think he'll turn to if threatened? Russia, Morocco, and the Dual Monarchy would be happy to help them out. Even Benin would be given an incentive to turn against us.

If I remember right, we tried to be forceful with Ibriz and that did us no favors. An unruly subject remains a subject, but a rebellious subject is lost.

Aren't the socialists in favor of giving him autonomy and eventually independence? What the hell do you think he's going to do with that newfound freedom? Thank mother Andalusia and allow her eternal monopoly rights? No, he's going to look for alliances internationally and cement his liberty. The man's father was a master of realpolitik, and so is he apparently, given that he is tricking the socialists into recognizing his legitimacy. And he would be an idiot to accept being a puppet forever.
