Gather around kids, and let me tell you the story of Bagged Milk. Once upon a time, Canada switched to the metric system. At about the same time, we also switched to milk in bags because somehow the two things are related. The end.

To be honest, bagged milk seemed like a good idea at the time. Nowadays, it's stupid and pollutes too much. gently caress single-use plastics. And no. Collage does not mean it gets "recycled". We all know collage are trash and will end up in the pacific gyre long before the year ends.

Dalael posted:To be honest, bagged milk seemed like a good idea at the time. Every country has stupidly corrupt industries which get tolerated for reasons beyond comprehension. In Canada, milk is such an industry. Bagged milk is dumb. Having milk open all the time makes it spoil faster and taste worse and can stink up the rest of the fridge too. They're bad for the environment too. Unlike jugs, bags are not recyclable. Supposedly bagged milk provided an advantage during the metric conversion - but that explanation doesn't really make sense. Most containers just had their labeling changed (355 mL aluminium cans are really 12 oz). Also the conversion was more than 40 years ago. I recently took a trip out west to breathe in smoke from forest fires. B.C. has only jugged milk. It is a far superior product. The reason BC has jugs? Cross-border shopping is much more common there. As a direct result BC residents know how crappy bags are are refuse to buy it. Canadian industry had to change to keep sales. Alberta benefits from this too due to shared distribution systems. Here in Ontario, cross-border shopping is much less prevalent (lol Detroit and Buffalo); there's effectively no competition. As a result the dairy industry is not just complacent, it's calcified. It actively fights any innovation. When some convenience store chains tried to run a trial with jugs, the Ontario Dairy Council fought them in protracted legal proceedings. They actually argued that a "pilot program [would] gave an unfair advantage to certain stores and not others." God help us if innovators benefit from innovation. Supply management thinking at its finest.

SolusLunes posted:I think I managed to j4g my way into goonfleet with something like 14 posts, though most of those were posts in Battletech threads and incidentally infuriating a turbosperg by buying him avatars. tbh back when I was on the auth team it was generally "has posted at least 100 times" and "doesn't only post in the eve threads to build postcount to join", and all of that was overridden by "use your best judgement". I'm a person who payed 10 bucks to post on a comedy forum and I subbed to eve online for like 7 years, my judgement is pretty bad. It's best to think of join requirements as idiot checks anyways, because there's 1000 ways to get into gsf if you aren't a complete retard and anyone failing a check is probably so dumb that they likely tie their thumbs to their shoes in the morning. EDIT: for the caldari whatever pilot, just apply, if you get shot down join Karmafleet, odds are they have better programs than Goonwaffe proper anyways. Does it matter who you play with these days much? I simultaneously got a spot in an ENEMY CORP and also re-auth'd to the waffe. I've played in Waffe before so know what that's like, but considering playing with someone else to see how it compares but not if it's going to be a "never in waffe again" choice.
