I don't think wars are ended with backroom dealings, personally. in fact, I think we can point to Obama specifically about the failure of staking hopes on that specific strategy. if we are seriously going to take on the military industrial complex, then we need political representatives who are able to articulate something that is currently absent in the national political stage of the US: we need people who can speak out consistently and with a principled and clear analysis about how evil and counterproductive US foreign policy is. we need people who can spread that message, and build a serious anti-war movement. we don't have that now, not even in Sanders. we don't have someone who says things like Sawant did, or like Jeremy Corbyn has in the UK since the beginning of the Iraq war. it would have been nice if AOC could have been the first of those voices to champion a socialist analysis of anti-imperialism in our contemporary political arena, but I think we can extrapolate from what we are seeing here and say no, that's probably not the case. AOC won on a domestic policy platform, not on a vision for a post imperial America second, if you want to have an authoritative critique on the US foreign policy you need access to knowledge that only the government has access to. If she says that our current military policies are bad, an endless stream of analysts and current and former military personnel will still holes in those arguments. they have the advantage of playing on fear, special knowledge, and authority. the best play is to just attack the military on domestic spending and the lack of return. maybe she can get an ex-troop on staff but that's the best case. unlike the UK our military is huge and it will take more than a politician with a nack for posting to change it. If that meaningless platitude means 20 less write ups that A PC hates America during her primary, or maybe enough good will to be put into a Medicare 4 all commity than whatever.
