H.P. Hovercraft posted:don't forget he's wealthy they're all greedy and insane the classic: quote:Seven studies using experimental and naturalistic methods reveal that upper-class individuals behave more unethically than lower-class individuals. In studies 1 and 2, upper-class individuals were more likely to break the law while driving, relative to lower-class individuals. In follow-up laboratory studies, upper-class individuals were more likely to exhibit unethical decision-making tendencies (study 3), take valued goods from others (study 4), lie in a negotiation (study 5), cheat to increase their chances of winning a prize (study 6), and endorse unethical behavior at work (study 7) than were lower-class individuals. Mediator and moderator data demonstrated that upper-class individuals’ unethical tendencies are accounted for, in part, by their more favorable attitudes toward greed. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3306667/

H.P. Hovercraft posted:not even, it was a post-nup Reposting this link since it has so many weird horrible Elon Musk vignettes https://www.marieclaire.com/sex-love/a5380/millionaire-starter-wife/ quote:Still, there were warning signs. As we danced at our wedding reception, Elon told me, "I am the alpha in this relationship." I shrugged it off, just as I would later shrug off signing the postnuptial agreement, but as time went on, I learned that he was serious. He had grown up in the male-dominated culture of South Africa, and the will to compete and dominate that made him so successful in business did not magically shut off when he came home. This, and the vast economic imbalance between us, meant that in the months following our wedding, a certain dynamic began to take hold. Elon's judgment overruled mine, and he was constantly remarking on the ways he found me lacking. "I am your wife," I told him repeatedly, "not your employee."

shiksa posted:https://twitter.com/Tweetermeyer/status/1035547303321292800 Nice. I used to read a lot of Niedermeyer Sr.'s blog posts. This family knows its poo poo re: cars FistEnergy posted:The market is so stupid Reminder that Ford, the most successful domestic automaker, fired a CEO because despite succsess everywhere he didn't move the company toward "being more like Tesla" enough At one point in stock terms, Tesla had the same value as Ford Dumb Lowtax posted:More Elon Musk ownage: This reminds me a bit of the "sales bank." So there was this guy named Lynn Townsend, he was an accountant who in the late 1950s became comptroller for Chrysler and its stable of brands: Dodge, Plymouth, and De Soto and I guess maybe Imperial. Back when Detroit was something like silicon valley in the public imagination (an endless font of prosperity where the best and brightest went) Townsend was initially seen as a genius. He was also Trump-esque in his insecurity, needing to belittle and humiliate anybody who questioned him. Unlike Citizen TUMP, however, he at least understood accounting. He cut poo poo and pulled a Hyundai, offering a comprehensive 50K mile warranty on all its products. This managed to pull the #3 "big three" automaker through its early '60s slump. Being a finance guy, he was really into making the stock look good, so he really concentrated on making smart short term moves to impress shareholders. This lead to the 'sales bank.' OK, so car companies have two basic things going on in their production: they have these factories and workers that they want to get the max ROI on. They also make (among other things) consumer products that 1) are very expensive and 2) actually have a limited shelf life before they are no longer "new" IE this year's model. This has lead car companies to be fanatical about producing enough cars to meet demand while making good use of factories and their workers - basically without a dealer order, they are not making a car or truck. Townsend - well, ok, he didn't literally start butting cars with his goddamn head on the assembly line, that's ridiculous - but keeping in the "make short term decisions" he began running off extra cars without having a buyer. This was a positive for making maximum use of factories, but then you needed to sell the things to dealers. So cars were being completed without buyers. Completing the basics of the vehicle, and then waiting for an order to come in and giving the specified options would have been comically inefficient by mass production standards, so cars were completed, sometimes with random and unsalable option combinations, and then sent to a series of parking lots Chrysler had. Storing a 'new' car through the Michigan winter this way is - not ideal. 1966 saw the Sales Bank holding 60,000 cars; by the start of 1969, it was 408,302. Mopar salesmen constantly tried to unload these unwanted cars onto dealers, who in turn would firesale them to customers. The dealers soon became savvy to that if you waited until the mopar salesmen were desperate, you could get the cars for a steal. Cars that couldn't be sold this way would be 'sold' to a shell company of Chrysler's, thus showing up on the books as a 'sale.' This poo poo eventually unraveled when the 60s were over and the '70's oil crisis happened, with stagflation. Townsend would resign in 1975, but not before putting in a few years of eccentric behavior, including all night drinking/strategizing sessions with his executives and including random joes in these sessions and then getting vicious at them if they had any criticism of how Townsend was rolling Actually, what Tesla is doing and these abandoned cars is even worse - the sales bank was a shell game but eventually most of those cars were sold. All of those cars Tesla has abandoned are now literally worthless to the company. Let me show you why: This article got posted in the OSHA thread. While somewhat 2008 macho employment porn, it's about a car transporter that almost sank with $100 million in Mazda cars. The ship spend several days at a 45 degree angle, and while 99% of the cars took literally no visible damage, Mazda decided the liability risk was too great, and had the entire shipment of cars mashed into scrap. The other funny leaked info was how Tesla has 14% FPY while the industry benchmark is >80%. I'm sure the whole 5000 a week target led to even more rush and QC problems just so Musk could brag about reaching a arbitrary goal.
