The thing is, I don't actually like getting ferried through dungeons by people who blast through them in thirty seconds. Like, it has a high utility for progress, but I just want to play the dungeon I don't want people to carry me while I sit in the corner with my thumb up my rear end

So like, what are you expecting to do in dungeons beside DPS monsters as a DPS role (I'm assuming cause you're complaining about long queues) because beside just fighting the mobs 1 at a time there isnt' much different between slow or fast for most low level dungeons. Level sync means they're effectively level 22 just like you so they're not really...super blasting through the content faster than intended.

Hell the first dungeons with really optional areas are the level 22 one which can take up to an hour if oyu wanna slow crawl it (And people don't cause it's boring) and then maybe the level 35 one? I think there's 1 tunnel that's optional.

All I know is the last time I did dungeons, I loaded in and three other high level players ran out way ahead, and as I was trying to catch up, it gave me a prompt to roll for loot and then it kicked me out to the world map and the quest was marked as ready to turn in. I'm not looking for a grueling experience, I just don't even know what you're even supposed to do in a dungeon because nobody wants to level sync, everyone just wants to blow through it at a high level at max speed so they can get their merit and hosed if the new player is lost.

If you enter a dungeon through Duty Finder, Level Sync is enforced. The only way you can disable it is with a premade party.

If you queued for a dungeon with the default options and were put into a dungeon with randoms they weren't high level cause they get symced down to Dungeon level +1 (or 2 in some instances!) and their stats get reduced to equivilent caps. Like the default option is level sync it's just not the "Stat Minimum" option. You're supposed to move forward in the dungeon, fighting monsters and bosses as a group til you get to the end. Like what were you even doing as they walked forward fighting the mobs that spawn every 10 steps? Just walking around?

You have to literally choose to unsync with a pre-made party. What you're stating could not have happened unless you chose it.

Edit: Even in an unsync'd party there are a minimum of three boss fights in every dungeon and short of using walk to go ahead you're going to catch up to the party quickly.

I guess I must've been in a party, then, but seriously I don't know what you gain by saying I'm exaggerating or something. The last time I played, probably about 10mos ago, my dungeon queues were all >1hr and I'm not willing to sit around for that. I'm not even willing to sit around for a 15min queue, honestly. I'm just highly incompatible with the MMO strucutre, it seems.

The mobs might've spawned every ten steps but these guys were so powerful that they were literally wiping them out before they even drew in on my screen.

Because what you're saying doesn't make any sense? Like we said you'd have to join a pre-made party then specifically choose the run it un-synced and then you're complaining that that's all anyone ever wants to do which is...patently untrue. The game has Roulette dungeon queues that give out rewards specifically to max level players to get them to run old content. It sounds like you asked for help with a notoriously long and boring dungeon (The Thousand Miles of Toto-rak is the level 22 dungeon) and someone figured they'd help you at least get the quest to move on instead of having to do it and you didn't understand anything they were saying.

The White Dragon posted:

yes because you were doing it Unsynced which is a special option you literally have to open 2 menus deep into the duty finder to even access and have a pre-made party for it.

That sounds like a guildhest which should be avoided at all costs because its mostly just ramming your party into one boss mob and then it dies instantly because the scaling was hosed up years ago.

Queues are a different problem entirely and its going to suck to do normal content any time a patch hasn't just came out 2 weeks ago to get the roullette populated.

The dungeon we ran wasn't the 22 dungeon, it was the very first one. Sahagins or something, with what a 20 minute time limit? Like even activating sprint I couldn't keep up with this. Anyway my experience with it is that as a low level player, I had tremendously long estimated wait times for mandatory dungeon runs. It wasn't fun, I couldn't progress, and I didn't want a similar experience to that first time where I learned nothing about how dungeons are run, so now I'm dead weight to any pug group I'd try to do a run with because I didn't even get a tutorial on this game mode.

FF14 is good for the story that comes with each patch every 3 months, and the boss fights are really good too, but beyond that they've completely dropped the ball on any kind of interesting or fun endgame content. It's so bad right now that I let my sub lapse for the first time since I started playing.

So like there's no real skills you get from leveling up that make you faster, especially at that level, so you could only really not catch up if you stood still for like, 4 mins at the start cause even at max stats for synced it takes a good 30 seconds or so for most of the mob groups to die.

I dunno what to tell you man, maybe dungeon was the wrong word and it was a mandatory guildhest? Whatever it was, my overall progress since then had been stymied by queues, travel times, and weird exp gaps. The White Dragon posted:

If you aren't already max level, the required story dungeons are completely dead. The last time I played, the ~lv22 story quest had an estimated wait time of over 1 hour. And you absolutely cannot even start them without a full party of very specific roles.

So, either bring three friends of equal level, or you can get hosed :)

This only happens when you play at a dead time on your datacenter or for a piece of content that's not story-required.

Matchmaking is datacenter-wide, and while there are queues for dps, no MSQ-mandatory queue should be dead during peak hours.

Panic! at Nabisco
Jun 6, 2007

it seemed like a good idea at the time
Hour+ queue and dead before you even loaded in sounds like a guildhest, which are like 5 minute chunks of dead simple content that are literally never relevant, they're basically incredibly simple tutorials for people who have never played a video game before on things like "sometimes you want to accomplish a side objective rather than just mindlessly dps down a thing" or "prioritize targets based on what they are doing." Even the level 15 dungeon (which is full of sahagins which sounds like what you're describing) will have short queues due to leveling roulette, and will take probably 20 minutes even with a fast group because dungeons in FFXIV are hard to speedrun.

I started playing 14 like 5 days ago and on a dps class (which have notoriously long queue times) i get into the low level dungeons usually within 10 minutes, and if you queue as a tank you have a solid chance of just getting in immediately. Guildhests take a similar amount of time, usually a minute or two longer. I'm in one of the worlds with an experience boost (presumably because it has a low population) and it's pretty active, even though the game is in a between patch lull.

Ignis is by cooking, Prompto is by taking pictures, and Gladio is by walking around (I believe chocobos count). if you do hunts and stuff, you'll probably get everything but Gladio's incidentally.
