Professional Tip for those who may not know: you can swap weapons on the fly in combat, so you can use a boomerang/whip for big mobs, and swap the next turn for a higher dmg single target weapon.

Does swapping take the whole turn?

Daikatana Ritsu

Nope, you can still act after swapping. Most DQ games of the past let you do this but I don't think many ppl know about it

Oh poo poo I didn't even think about this, I just assumed it would cost a turn. Makes sense why some skills on the board are locked behind investing in multiple weapons at once, dug

its refreshing to play an RPG where the quests give you simple directions+good landmarks and lets you find stuff on your own instead of magical GPS

You can get really granular with your casters using the same strat but I usually just leave one as a pure healer

I feel compelled to go all in on greatswords for my mc because drat does the game sell the power behind those. Really the animations here are astounding

They pretty much drop with a thud and apparently since they’re two-handed they can parry stuff

I just went for the higher numbers but they’re really really good rn

Octagonia reminds me a lot of Shadow Hearts 2

[Octagonia boss spoilers] Arachtagon is immensely bullshit. Unless I missed some major mechanics I don't see how the fight is anything but luck-based.

I want another game with monster capturing, I really love all these new 3d models for super old dragon quest enemies

Harder enemies is reasonable so far, though I haven't fought a real boss yet. I just scraped by fighting the Grim Gryphon duo at level 7. You definitely need to have a lot of herbs early on before you have a full party.

same, I really want some slime friends to join me on my quest. it would be cool if they made a new console version of Dragon Quest Monsters.

That's a good way to think. Games don't get much more jrpg than this.

Shypox is pretty funny, there's a lot of variety in the things you get embarrassed about.

I also really like how the reduced experience works, it's extremely strict so as soon as I left the first town I'm already getting 0 xp from most enemies. No grinding or getting overleveled for me!

Everyone should pick Shypox, every time has been hilarious.

I love the sisters, very evocative voice acting. The haiku town was really fun to run around and just talk to every npc. I love the verticality of all the cityscapes. Crafting is also a little treat with its own exp system and flourishes. I’ve basically bought nothing that I have equipped currently, though I’m sure some stuff can only be purchased and then enhanced later. Love this game!

Mini spoiler: You can get to the casino as soon as you get a boat, though it means going west when the game says to go east.

so far, it feels like metal slimes are just an extremely rare encounter that can happen anywhere, which I think is way better than being farmable in specific spots. it feels like hitting the random encounter jackpot instead of cheating by exploiting spawns
