Just how many mistakes have you suffered on the way here?

An uncountable number, to be sure.
How useful do people think that "Curse on Hit" ring is? I've found 2 of them so far, and it's the sort of thing I find it hard to evaluate.

maybe the weakest option for cursing on hit at a high end but easy entry for early league curse on hitting if you need it

Reave (especially vaal) feels really nice since it has good area, doesn't need careful aiming, and you never have to worry about losing stacks. Im currently running champion with shield but you can probably build it a million different ways with dual wield.

Yeah I'll second reave. I copied a build from some level 100 guy in incursion, ascendant slayer/jugg reave/bladeflurry. Normally I don't league start with a build that is gear dependent like this, but I wanted something that had a lot of scaling potential and decent sustain and durability. Looked like it fit the bill and I decided to roll with it. Turns out a scaeva, a low end stat stick, 1000 accuracy, leech effects not going away at full health, and a constant supply of endurance charges for immortal call do a lot of work. It wasn't anywhere near as painful to start out as I was anticipating. Now that I replaced the scaeva with a much better sword I'm cruising. Most of the delve encounters are press flasks, stand there spamming reave while it blows up the screen, and wait for it to be done. I suspect it lacks the mitigation options to go really deep in delve, but I think that depth will be far deeper than I was going to regularly look to farm anyways so I'm not worried.

I think it's pretty good because my build has free ring slots but I'd need a five-slot to use a support gem.

Lol, all of the guides I can find are fairly light on descriptions of what to actually do while leveling. I've got RT/AOF, my conversion jewels slotted in, pyre and call of brotherhood equipped, a drillneck equipped, and then mostly random trash I grabbed from the guild stash. I have a Chin Sol waiting but I'm still in the 30s. My ehit is in a 4L right now (with I think elem dmg, gmp, fire pen).

I think my problem is I don't have nearly enough dex to use any bows at my level. Like I'm using a blue ilvl 9 bow currently.

Quote from a couple pages ago, but I think the top builds are something like: Poet's Pen variants (vd/bs or arc/lw), BV (chief if you want tanky), or yeah, RF is probably still good. I'm sure there's some decent trap/arc totem builds that are good but i dont play them so i cant comment. The PP builds are insane especially with the new lightning warp, both for leveling and end game. You're basically binding your movement skill and damage skill into one key, and then attacking/moving/casting 5 times a second. Play a hiero, pathfinder or elementalist.

Yea the Pen's are more expensive then usual, but keep in mind you dont need a 6link unique chest, just use a kaom and some "6L or 7L" Elder Gloves.

your bow damage really doesnt matter that much since you are mostly scaling off gem levels. can just use a stormcloud.

honestly with all the conversion poo poo and jewels it should be feeling pretty good. you could do a single target setup if you want

Given that I am extremely lazy, is it worth my while to actually grab an Animated Guardian/Chieftain Spectre? Like how often am I going to need to recast them? Is buying the stuff for a AG as obnoxious as it seems?

A bit late but spectres are incredibly easy to resummon once you get them (if they even die); just use desecrate to spawn corpses and it'll randomnly include any spectres that have been in the map into the mix. A lv20 gem summons lv100 corpses though they'll be map level capped.

AGs are, indeed, a pain in the rear end to get but can also use gear that gives effects to allies and have a boat load of hp when properly equipped so should never die. You'll also only spend a few c equipping them.

Homebrew. Here's my refined core goal and concept (level 89): https://pastebin.com/qpu49fEn

Combining those skill gems together feels pretty original/synergistic, and I'm pretty confident how it will play out. 4 super sentiels, 9 zombies and 3 spectres beat the hell out of stuff, and they'll be super tanky.

Beyond the staple items in the pastebin, just fill out gear however you want. If you can figure out a way to curse stuff on hit, you can remove the ring - it's just there just to try stuff out. You can also just get a nice rare unset ring, and put a curse in there. On bosses you can manually cast it.

After level 89, just fill out more life nodes.

Thanks for this, imported fine and I'm just barely started. The new smite is definitely a nice improvement at the newbie levels. Already managed to die on my first foray into the delve, good thing I'm not good enough to even consider playing HC.. then again if I was I probably wouldn't have died.

Picked up my summon zombie and an ancestral call and things are much better than just relying on smite which is all I had on that first delve.

Another question since Im building the atlas and low tier maps are a terrible way to get a feel for mitigation. I have two options for mitigation, one is endurance charge through warlords mark because I have both vengeance and reckoning popping off at all times, and I can pair that with a max level immortal call CWDT that gets me over the 3 second cooldown when it goes off. I have a spare slot so I can toss in enduring cry for the hell of it. The other option is ignoring endurance charges entirely, slotting in enfeeble as my curse of choice, and using pcoc to get easy power charges

I like the idea of a long immortal call and being able to run things like abyssus safely but Ive had a lot of theories like this that ended up feeling like poo poo and this has a high chance of being too fiddly to bother with. Is this any good? Or does this sort of thing require more focused endurance charge generation?

Anyone know what determines the monster level of a master's daily mission area?

Why yes Vorici I'd love to keep your target on low life for 8 seconds, but this area is level 34 while I'm level 71, so everything dies the moment I look at it funny.

Not sure I like the Delve/flare/hidden area mechanic. My 3 flares barely get me to a destructible wall, and then my dynamite doesn't even completely destroy it. Then my flares burn out but I used all of my flare capacity to get to the location so... welp...

Guess I'm supposed to just ignore the hidden areas until I'm much deeper in the delve with all my poo poo upgraded, which is kind of a poo poo mechanic if they have the secret areas in the very low depth areas.

They've said they're going to improve flares/dynamite soon.

I'm currently thinking the 36 challenge portal looks cool, but the challenge list worries me a bit. Those three "Kill the Delve bosses while showing off in four or five different ways" look like a right pain to get, unless delve bosses get a lot more common deeper down.

I've been playing PoE for a few weeks now, and I'm looking into buying some things from the shop (partly for myself and partly to support the devs for this great game I'm playing). However I'm quite unsure what might be good to get.

I've been told that getting some stash tabs, especially the currency and map tabs, is a great idea. Also I'm told there might be a sale on these this weekend so I should wait until then before getting them. Is there anything else that might be good to buy? I see there are so many things I could buy, so I'm wondering about any of the supporter packs or similar, are they good to get? Basically I'd like to know if there's anything I should look at to buy, please.

Currency, map, and one premium tab are as close to essential as you can get in the game. The first two so you don't hate managing inventories and the last one so you can easily sell things. The other specialist tabs are nice but aren't so bad to organize in normal tabs. A 5pack of premiums is also a good pickup just for shoving crap into for mass selling at specific values.
And yes, the stash sales are generally once a month and pretty good discounts.

Supporter packs are okay if you want the cosmetics they give as they give less raw points than their value*

*There is/was a first time buyer pack that gives some cosmetic while still being full value iirc.

If you're interested in cosmetics at all the supporter packs are the way to go. You get almost as many funbux as you would just buying them outright and you also get (at the $60 level) one full head-to-toe cosmetic upgrade which would normally be around $40ish if bought a la carte. The included points will easily be enough to buy essential stash tab upgrades when they are on sale.

Of course, if the armor and weapon set in the supporter pack don't appeal to you then it becomes a less compelling offer

The current supporter packs are pretty good (in my entirely subjective opinion etc). You lose a bit of points but you get the cool stuff that comes with them. So I'd say pick up one and use the rest of the points in tabs (giving priority to currency tabs as you've been told) when they're on sale which happens every so often.

Buy a $60 supporter pack for a sweet cosmetic set and 550 points.

Spend the points as such:
75 - Currency tab (huge QoL)
150 - Map tab (huge QoL)
150 - Quad tab (for dumping various loot in)
75 - 5x Upgrade stash tab (tabs can now be labelled and/or used for selling at various price points. I leave one not upgraded because then it’s unique and basically labelled too)
100 points left over for whatever you want

If you wait for a stash sale you can save 20% and fit in another premium bundle or quad tab, but you probably won’t need it.

Essence tab, fragment tab and divination tabs are fluff, skip them.

You can buy 300points for $30 and skip the quad tab (and cosmetics) if you’re on a budget. The rest is nearly mandatory to get max out of the endgame.

A regular stash tab fits 144 different cards and does just as good a job at marking full stacks. I’ve honestly considered using a regular premium tab this league instead of my div tab, as the div tab doesn’t let me Ctrl+D the cards to price check them with the Trade Macro.

Is there any other upside to the tab?

The trade macro saves so much time for pricing, what's your issue with it?

Ctrl+D for a ballpark price (sufficient for 90% of items)
Ctrl+Alt+D to isolate high rolls if relevant
Manually check anything above a certain value

Not having to constantly alt tab to check if marginal unique #372 is vendor trash or 3 chaos this league is bliss.

Hell, the pricing algorithm for rares has even improved to a point where it’s not completely useless.

The upside is just control-clicking the cards, send them to some bizarre void where you never have to see them again until you have a full stack. The div card tab was the last one I bought because it seemed unnecessary but once I got it I was like "yeah this feels way better".
