“Brian Herbert is the greatest writer in the history of mankind, the literary genius who conceived and wrote Dune, an immense franchise that has been sweeping award after award for decades --using his father’s secret notes. But he's an old man now, and has overstayed his welcome. The Nobel Prize Committee of the Swedish Academy wants him to stop writing and turn over his secrets and techniques to them to control. Brian knows this would be most unwise.

When Brian refuses to resign, the Academy institutes a campaign against him, spreading lies, distortions, and half-truths that seriously damage his reputation. His popularity plummets, and millions of people crowd the streets of major cities, demonstrating against him.

Despite all the adversity, Brian returns to writing Dune VIII: Spice of Life, devoted to saving humanity from itself. The Academy can't remove him forcibly--without risking the loss of the critically acclaimed franchise.[...]”

Absolutely.

In my opinion, the theatrical cut is better if you've already read the books.

wasn't god-emperor supposed to be entirely first person monologuing at some point but they told herbert he had to make it more conventional?

I think God Emperor is pretty out-there, even when compared to the original story which is fairly surreal and psychedelic. Herbert started writing about sexual politics a lot more in GEoD, though, and it's an interesting book even if the characters are poo poo. Heretics and Chapterhouse are not interesting, and by that point Herbert was a bit too full of himself.

I, II, & IV are where it's at. III is adequate.

Umm so I guess early Westwood RTS games were open sourced after EA killed the studio and can now be played on anything, which means Dune 2000 is back in my life. (also Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert)

He made probably the greatest video game soundtracks of the 90’s. I actually bought a few of the C and C soundtracks and they’re great workout tracks.

Yeah, I played both Dune II and Herzog Zwei on my Genesis, fun as hell back then. Herzog Zwei is sort of the progenitor of the entire genre as we know it, and Dune II refined the concepts a bit to the cursor-control that is now standard; I think I still have my carts somewhere.

I had the Tiberian Sun soundtrack for a very long time, along with some nod/gdi pins from back in the day, somehow convincing my parents to buy both. got a backup copy of the soundtrack later on when i re-bought tiberian sun with firestorm in a bundle.

It *was* the first RTS, which everyone at least had tried and which was the measuring stick for everyone else.

There was an earlier Sega Genesis game called Herzog Zwei, which had similar mechanics, but it did not really become such a big thing.

A couple years down the road, the Games Workshop would tell a new game studio to suck poo poo on licensing their Warhammer franchise... and things happened.
