Yeah, not to rag on the presenters but they don't really seem like trained speakers. I don't watch much esports, but when I do, I'm taken aback by how often they screw up simple things like blowing out their mics or talking over each other.

To be fair, talking is hard. Quick, concise, clear speaking without a lot of uhs and ums takes a lot of practice, and doing that while being dynamic and having sufficient game knowledge is a big ask.

I was just going to say what jerkface said. It's tough to announce a game you don't know very well. The PUBG invitational had solid announcers and analysts from people who play the game a ton. Knowing the game goes a long way in talking quickly and concisely about it.

That's probably the biggest challenge right now for any esports broadcasting, particularly new ones. Finding people that are able to perform as an announcer, have stage presence AND that are very familiar with the game. Stick a high profile ESPN guy on stream and they simply wouldn't really know what the gently caress they are seeing, much less what's important and what isn't. PUBG also throws the additional wrench of the potential for several big things to happen simultaneously all over the map.

A friend of mine was a hugely popular announcer up until recently where he is now directing for MLG full time. He told me how he preferred to announce the games he knows a lot about because the ones he didnt he would have to spend a lot of time researching the game before the events.

Cheating is still a huge problem. It's crazy to me that some people still think it isn't.

Got squad wiped by a guy just last night. He was a solo who was zooming around the map and never missed a shot. Looked up the account and he had a 10+ KD across with a near perfect headshot rate. Had like 300 games on Asian servers and 8 games on NA.

I reported him but it just feels like a drop in the bucket. Best thing to do is just laugh at the game.

I think the pan guy was exploiting a bug in the game, which counts as cheating and is bannable, but is maybe not hacking? The line is a bit blurry there. It would depend on whether he could provoke that state manually or if code was involved.

Heads sticking through walls is pretty terrible. I've killed people sometimes because I saw the barrel of their gun sticking through a wall or door, so I knew where to find them. That is bad enough, but heads poking through and being shootable is really awful.

New Feature: Training Mode

Added a Training Mode where you can practice all aspects of PUBG gameplay
The Training Mode map is 2x2 in size
You can join through matchmaking by clicking on the “Training Mode” button in the lobby.
When there are more than 5 players in the matchmaking queue, the session will start immediately. Players will continue to join open sessions for up to 5 minutes after they start. (Up to 20 per session)
If there are less than 5 players in the matchmaking queue, matchmaking will continue for 5 minutes
If there are still less than 5 players after 5 minutes, the session will start with the original number of players present and other players cannot join the session.
Total play time is 30 minutes (e.g. in case of number 2, where you immediately enter a session, you have 5 minutes where other players can join the session + regular training mode playing time of 25 minutes)

New Weapon: MK47 Mutant

The Tukshai is a 3 person vehicle that substitutes the UAZ, Dacia and Minibus

Supply System


Added the supply system which grants you a reward based on completed missions and play time
You can level up and get rewards when you fill the Survival gauge with survival XP
Missions will be refreshed daily and weekly.
You earn a reward every time you gain a survival level

Restructuring of the BP System

Previously, we offered BP rewards based only on your ranking. Now, we’ve restructured the system to take into account both play time and ranking.
Rewards have been restructured to equalize the differences in BP efficiency based on playing time for each Map and Mode.
We’ve changed team rewards to be shared
You will no longer receive 4 times the BP because you were playing alone in a squad game

Added a new attachment: the Laser Sight
Bullet spread is reduced when hip firing and soft-aiming
The Laser Sight fits on weapons with a lower rail slot available, taking up the grip slot.
Currently, there is a known issue that the laser effect is not displayed in the death cam or replay. This issue will be resolved soon.


Added the improved Marker/Ping System first introduced for testing on the 8/1 test server update
Using ALT + Mouse wheel click, you can create a marker where you are aiming on the compass at the top of the screen (not visible in the world)
You may change the key bindings freely in options
All team members can see this marker on the compass
After setting the marker, there is a 2 second cooldown before you can mark again
The marker on the compass will automatically disappear after 5 seconds
When the ping markers overlap, the closest located marker will be shown on top.

Improved the visuals for blue zone effects
Bluezone effects are now shown more clearly.
While the Bluezone is closing in, it will be easier to see from a longer distance than before
Bluezone effects looked differently depending on the map and weather. We’ve improved this so that the Bluezone effect is visually similar in all conditions.

Replay

Improved control methods for the Camera (Free Camera / Follow Camera)

When a click is maintained under 0.3 seconds this will be perceived as a “click”, if it is held longer then the click is perceived as a “drag”.
Replay version has been updated, replays from previous updates are no longer playable.

Added 4 types of presets for Custom Matches.

Improved the usability of the Flaregun
When obtaining the Flaregun, the number of care packages left will be displayed in the HUD - on top of the minimap.
When using the Flaregun, the UI displays whether it is possible to successfully fire the Flaregun
Adjusted the display indicating the scope of area for the Flaregun drop
Removed “War Royale” option in War mode - blue zone option

He never played it often because he said to get really good at base building is insanely hard to do, and you need to play constantly to keep your skill level up. I think he is getting bored of most everything right now and can take that challenge. When he isn't wiping people on raids in WOW. You can tell he's just burned out entirely on PUBG. Viss and Josh are my go-to for PUBG streaming shenanigans these days.

That being said, I had a ton of fun watching it. It stayed true to the battle royale mode of PUBG and added the gimmicky/arcadey stuff that CoD has been known for. It seems like a fun game. Just worried about the player base.

There is a healthy number of players currently stuck on PUBG and fortnite on PC that blackout could draw from. I don't think that was the case for the earlier releases you're citing.
