extreme_accordion posted:Congrats! It would be nice to have been asked questions / defend your design for the trukk - I thought it was more truck than most. Thank you! Yeah, it would have been nice to have had a bit more input in the finals from my perspective, but that would have been a nightmare for the devs to try and orchestrate. As for the truck, well, I got burned once again by the fact I took a more liberal view of the demographics and categories that each competition category was aiming for, whereas the devs were quite literal in their expectation - if they said they wanted a 00s offroader/utility vehicle, those were the exact demographics they wanted you in - not above or below.

Second and final part of the Grand Final is up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2MtwUE7qdU I've received my prize for winning one of the category finals; a game key and a key for the early supporter V16 pack. I will give these as a package to the first person who can answer the following question: What is the combined horsepower of all six of my finalist entries?

extreme_accordion posted:@MrChips - how far out until the next contest? I've got a bunch of work stuff going on right now, so I can't make any definite promises, but...end of the month perhaps? It's not going to be SASC-91, though, that is going to need a lot of attention to work properly with the UE4 version. This new challenge? The rallycross thing I've been threatening for a while.

I haven't gotten stuck in yet to try to figure stuff out but any advice on making tools to do race-distance calculations like SASC-90? I'm thinking of an IMSA offshoot - performance capped more by displacement per weight with modifiers on how many QP are available. Like, IMSA allowed race engines at one weight break, production based stuff at another, so on and so forth... so in the GTP-equivalent, you could have turbos with some maximum compressor size at one weight break, 2 valve engines get one QP number (IMSA allowed aftermarket heads) and up to 6.5L at another weight break, 4+ valve engines with a lower QP number at another up to 5L, and 3.5L 4+ valve engines with a huge number of QP to represent the F-1 derived stuff that was allowed in. I need to mess about to figure out if it's even possible to do - and might be fun too because some stuff might end up with very different fuel consumption and reliability.

quote:V16 engines are the largest capacity engine configuration available in Automation, with a capacity range of 1.1L - 21.7L. While it is not giving players any direct advantage, it offers a nuanced alternative to V12 engines for very-high-end cars. LOL at calling a V16 nuanced in any sense of the word.

could someone please debug/tune my car? i tried to make a GTR-esque car (90s, inline six, turbocharged, awd) but it came out, uh, wtf is this torque curve? i have no idea what im doing and i think i made a mistake in how i specced out the turbocharger...? also it sucks that you cant do twin turbo on an inline six https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hir4Ek6lPJFrKZhoTB_9_llETgioYqBT/view?usp=sharing e: other things i have no idea about : gearing, cam profiles, basically everything please help Yaoi Gagarin fucked around with this message at 01:41 on Sep 8, 2018 |

Double posting, but here is what I came up with... Overall, it's not a bad effort all things considered; there were no really huge changes that needed to be made. I made some changes to your engine, first and foremost...you had a bunch of quality in there that you really didn't need, so I got rid of that, and went to some cheaper components (like a cast crankshaft vs forged, heavy-duty forged conrods vs titanium, and forged pistons vs lightweight forged). I tuned the turbocharger to be in line more with what Automation likes - very high AR ratio, large compressor and small turbine. Also, a couple of tweaks to the cam settings and now the engine is making a bit more power than your original tune, but for a lot less cost. As for the chassis, it wasn't too bad overall either; I made a couple tweaks to the gearing, set the power distribution to 50/50 (ideally, you don't want your power distribution to be too far away from the car's weight distribution at the moment), made some pretty major changes to the brakes, added a front lip (giving you front downforce instead of just rear downforce) and tweaked the aero for near zero-lift, and finally made a couple changes to the dampers and spring rates. Here's the net result: And here is the original car's stats, for comparison: This is just a quick going-over - with a bit more work, I probably could have improved even further still. Either way, here's the .car file if you want to have a look at what I came up with: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1UWYuhm85iMqyOoTLxNdceWPl9rcsJk_q

MrChips posted:Double posting, but here is what I came up with... wow, thanks so much! do you mind describing what you did in more detail, and why? especially the chassis stuff, i really dont get how most of that works e: it would be really cool if you could make an ATTESA style AWD system in this game that could dynamically adjust which axle gets more power Yaoi Gagarin fucked around with this message at 06:09 on Sep 8, 2018 |

I get why most games don't treat AWD systems like that though. "OK, now write an algorithm describing torque bias as a function of various variables" is nontrivial for a bunch of people IRL.
