Figuring out HOW its fake is what I'm interested in. Control inputs don't seem right for a model? I'm thinking render which means its one hell of a render.

Event with the poor quality of the vid the plane is still a little too... nice. The edge aliasing is also a little weird.

Continuing to watch it I think the weirdest thing is the only lights on the plane are those nose wheel ones.

Looking at the airleron position gives it away as either being a simulator or rendering.

- Looks like a computer model - Forward motion slows to almost none - When it was upside down, it would have nosedived into the ground unless the pilot pushed a full negative 1G (astronomically unlikely)

um excuse me posted:Looking at the airleron position gives it away as either being a simulator or rendering. Elevators don't look like they move too. The animator did a decent job covering up many limitations on the airliner model with artifacting.

That's an amazingly well done CGI, even if it misses some blatant stuff like control surfaces not moving. Give that person a movie to work on, it's going to look incredible.

Someone made a video of something like holes being punched in the wing of a not southwest jet a few years ago that was really impressive. Not sure how I'd find it. It had the animator's website instead of "southwest.com" on the wingtips.

Cocoa Crispies posted:Some people at SpaceX probably need a clearance for some aspects of NRO payloads, SpaceX is big enough that it makes sense for them to have the infrastructure to hold clearances, and part of that infrastructure is making sure management (including ownership) is cleared or at least clearable. Space programmatics may be classified and things that the top brass need to know about program performance may be classified (e.g. cost, test schedule, technical issues or limitations). That said, I'm guessing Shotwell would be the person with the TS//SAP/SAR/SCI/WTF Clearance

The fact that he smoked is not a big issue. The fact that he apparently thought it a good idea to do so in a very public way while there are already serious questions surrounding his leadership demonstrates a rather appalling lack of judgement, though, which is a much bigger issue that smoking marijuana by itself. To bring it slightly back to topic, with marijuana legalization very close here in Canada, I've had a fair number of my students asking about what the policy on marijuana use will be, and it's starting to piss me off. Transport Canada hasn't issued any guidance beyond "flight crew must not be under the influence of drugs," and basically it's my opinion that until we have more information, pilots should simply not smoke marijuana at all. I have nothing against marijuana use personally but in the absence of clearer laws, and more data about how long it takes impairment to go away after smoking, it just seems like a bad idea. Why the gently caress would you pick this career if you want to drink and/or use drugs regularly? When I went back to flying, I recognized that part of the tradeoff was not being able to drink as much or whenever I liked anymore.

The squadron I currently work with has about $300 in Jack Daniels alone under the bar that's 6 feet from the commander's office, and 10 feet from the staff.

Oh yeah, I still get drunk if I'm not flying the next day, I'm 99% sure all of my co-workers drink too, and I've never had a flight test where the PE didn't mention some variation of "beer o'clock" afterward, but you have to keep the poo poo down to shoe level obviously. If you want to be a daily drinker or a regular drug user, I'm just saying it may not be the ideal profession for you -- not that you have to be teetotal or anything.

Thomamelas posted:If it helps the Canadian military released their guidelines and flight crew aren't allowed to consume it 24 hours before a flight. That's good to know. Do you happen to know if that's the same as their policy with booze? Transport Canada's official advice for civilians is no booze 24 hours before flying, but the law only says 8 hours and you must not be under the influence at all. I'm getting my medical this Wednesday so I'll ask the doc if he's heard anything. I mean, ultimately I think 24 hours is probably safe but I'm going to abstain just to be on the safe side, and it would be my advice to my students to do the same. That being said, I wouldn't refuse to fly with someone who smoked more than 24 hours ago.
