Generally I weigh the additional price of comp insurance over two years plus my deductible against the value of the car. Considering my luck, and the fact that I'm driving newish cars now, comprehensive always wins out and I'm much less destitute for it. Two <10 year old cars totalled in a year has made me wise.

See poo poo like that is great. You could probably get the engine running fur <$100 unless it's somehow hosed up. Clean the glass so you can see and drive the thing as is. The Courier I had was found like that and was one of the best little trucks I've owned. I sold it to my Dad that fixed a lot of the cosmetic issues and has been using the hell out of it. He's tossing it on Bring a Trailer when he's done with it.

I know it’s stupid and impractical, especially in CO, but I really want a MR2 Spyder with the 6 speed sequential manual. I know people generally want gen 1 or 2, but that makes them expensive and 90% were someone’s project car.

I know, it's a kind of goofy looking car. Looks like it's smiling all the time. I hear it handles fantastic, and it's decently zippy with the 6-speed. My concern is RWD mid-engine in the snow and a soft-top in the winter/snow. The roads are usually fine in the winter, but I don't want to be home-bound when there is snow. Not sure how good it is even with winter tires, and I don't know how the safety is either since it doesn't seem like it was ever tested.

It drives great. It's not super suitable for snow, do you have the budget or space for a beater? They do have hard tops available and in colder regions I think many of them were equipped that way. Also, I'd go for the Manual one.
