So I just watched that new Pig video (ON YOUTUBE, thank you very much!), and Sasha Gray is like a black hole where charisma goes to die. Her voice sucks, and she comes off as wooden as gently caress in the video. I'd say, "Why, Pig, why?!" but I have a feeling that having a music video on the front page of Pornhub for a day probably gets you more listens than anything else you could do in industrial music.

She's been a fan for some years I think and was in an industrial-ish project some years ago, so it's not *entirely* surprising.... But yes. Promoting it on Pornhub was to get new listeners.

UK noisy/weird industrial fans: Thorofon, Synapscape and Qual are playing at Electrowerkz in London on January 5th next year so that's pretty loving exciting since I hadn't expected to see either Thorofon or Synapscape over here any time soon.

A lot of people don't like WWIII because they feel it is overrated compared to Nihil and Angst, and they have a point, but it was still a pretty slick production that tapped into some of the same Bush-era energy that Ministry was going for. Everything post Hau Ruck just felt either out of place, really uninspired or like they had jumped the shark with the self-deprecation. "KMFDM sucks" became really cringe once they started sucking.

Pagan Struck are awesome Mexican old school EBM. Also Spetsnaz, Sturm Cafe, Orange Sector, Jager 90, Spark!, ad:key, Body styler, Blitzmaschine, and Wulfband are all solid EBM.

I mean, you could look into the semi-ironic stylings of Sturm Cafe, Jager 90 and Spark!, but it is honestly pretty bad, and you would be much better of making a lateral move from Nitzer Ebb to Front 242 or even DAF. Skip Anhalt stuff altogether. It's pretty much music made to keep the local EBM communities in Germany and Scandinavia alive, and it's entirely derivative and artistically bankrupt. The only actually good thing to make it out of there is Wulfband, which really fits more into the next wave of EBM-inspired artists that also include Youth Code and Boy Harsher. Definitely check those bands out. The latest thing is merging EBM-revival with Berlin Techno. Saw ohGr tonight with Lead into Gold. First time seeing them live and it was really great. Loved how energetic he was around the stage and how much fun the band was having with it. I hadn't heard anything by Lead into Gold before tonight but he had some good tracks too. I'd really like to see Skinny Puppy one day, but I wonder if this is as close as I'll get now.

There's a bit of discussion on Spetznaz and related post-Nitzer acts on a recent We Have a Technical podcast if anyone is interested: http://www.idieyoudie.com/2018/08/22/we-have-a-technical-222-smoked-licorice/ The podcast also refers to this article by Resident Advisor which is tangentially related because it is a very recent article on the history of EBM by a total outsider, which might nonetheless be interesting reading because it is fairly well-researched for the most part. It also claims, and I have no idea how or why this is the case, that a version of EBM is The Latest Thing in tyool 2018. Anyway it's probably too late now and you'll have to let us know what you dug and did not dig, but enjoy your EBM time!

I went to a Schwefelgelb gig that was put on as part of a local techno night and was probably 15 if not 20 years older than everyone there. The other punters were all clearly techno scene types. It was funny, dj after the band played a set with stuff like Phase Fatale, SARIN etc which you could also do in an industrial club but here it was young folk into up - to - the - minute Berlin techno.

I wasn't much looking forward to Laibach's The Sound of Music. It felt a bit gimmicky even for them and I wasn't quite sure they could do anything very interesting with it. ^Oh no  They'll hopefully try and reschedule at the end of the tour. Most importantly stay safe!I saw PIG/Killing Joke and Omniflux/Lead Into Gold/OhGr this week. First time for everyone but PIG. PIG ruled, Raymond is still awesome and great/hilarious to talk to. He played new and old stuff. His band is Ben Christo on guitar and Jan Vincent Velazco on drums this time around- Gunther, Nick/Esch and Greg/ZMarr had prior commitments. Killing Joke was superb. I'm overall less familiar with their discography though. Prior to the show Jaz was walking around and shaking hands and taking photos with people for 10-15 minutes, seems like a nice dude. Omniflux was pretty new to me, I think I had only listened to her album once before but her set was great. She did her own visuals as well which is always cool. I bought her album after the show. Lead Into Gold was great, and then Mahsa of Omniflux came out and joined PB for a handful of songs on guitar., which was awesome. OhGr blew me away. Prior to the show I thought they were good but not something I would reach for too often. But their set was awesome. It was weird as gently caress and intense. ALSO, some rear end in a top hat beat the poo poo out of Nivek in Philly a few days ago, knocking him out and leaving him with hairline fractures in his jaw- but he still played! Including the night he was assaulted! From what I've read he's doing okay and feeling better but man, playing hours after getting knocked out is pretty badass.

Cocksure was OK on Night 1 and Lead into Gold was one of the worst sets I've seen. Just incredibly boring. Chemlab on the other hand was great. Incredible energy, fun set, and Jared Louche was clearly incredibly psyched on stage. He then came and hung out in the crowd and at his merch table with anyone who wanted to talk to him and was beaming. Ohgr was pretty good. A goofy fun stage show, and while I'd have hoped they'd play a different mix of stuff it was all pretty good. C-Tec was fantastic on Night 2. It's unfathomable that Jean-Luc is 61. Granted he has a shaved head and wears sunglasses everywhere but he doesn't look it, doesn't act it and doesn't sound it. Great set and amazing it sounded as good as it did given I don't think he's toured C-Tec in ages. Meat Beat Manifesto was fine, not my thing but if it was yours it was probably great? Wasn't into any of the opening bands on Night 3, saw half of the Black Queen's set, wasn't my thing. I wasn't expecting a ton out of the Front Line Assembly set. Bill was very flat last year when I saw them with Cubanate and RevCo, but holy poo poo. The whole band had way more energy, Bill was on fire and the set list was pretty good. Especially seeing them do Gun and Millennium. He even looked healthier. I went with someone who has seen them since the Hard Wired tour and thought this was their best set since then. Anyway, if you have a chance to go to Chicago or LA do it. I wasn't completely sold on the line up going in, but the key bands all delivered and those two cities get a slightly better line up too.
