Based on the Valkyria 4 demo, shock troopers seem kinda pointless. Their accuracy is really poor at range and movement is still kinda crappy, and the game has really strong longer range options. Maybe their armor later gives them an edge or they get more interesting weapons, or there are defense or ambush missions where they're more useful.

All classes have a role to play in Valkyria games as long as you are not cheesing the maps. Shock Troopers are there to deal with lancers and other shock troopers whilst also providing a lot of incidental fire which is great when you can get the enemy to run past your guns.

But cheesing the maps is what gets you A ranks, which gets you a lot of extra EXP and money, so you're still encouraged to throw a defense buff on a Scout and have them rush through enemy lines. I'm sort of replaying VC1 and I'm at the mission I've been dreading: the one where you blow up the bridge. For some reason I remember the stage feeling super long and I think I had to do it twice due to making a mistake and not saving mid-battle. Now I have to do it again and I think this concentration camp is just never going to be liberated.

Mario and Luigi games also count for this I think, maybe they push the 20 hour mark a little more. Though they aren't what a lot of people think of when they think "jrpg".

LISA is very good and not too lont but I usually recommend it with the caveat that you should review the content warnings. I know a few people who bounced off due to the subject matter.

The petition to "save Wildstar" barely got 1500 signatures, lol. Watching the world chat as I play, these people are absolutely convinced their game is a gem and it's mismanagement by Carbine and other players being too casual/stupid that their dead dumb game is dying.
