I'm sifting through the hurricane nerds forums at American Weather, and most folks seem to be in agreement that Florence has been restrengthening over the last couple of hours, however the "intensification" currently seems to be going into size and coverage of the storm, less into wind speed. However, there seems to be a pivotal point around this afternoon eastern local time, where Florence may undergo an "EWRC" which has something to do with the eyewall regenerating or reforming or something, idk. That would be pretty bad, though. So as it currently looks, the windspeeds from the recon flights indicate Florence is more like a gently caress-off-huge category 1 hurricane, and much more places will get less severe, but still considerable precipitation, but there probably wouldn't be damage as catastrophic to the coastline from wind speeds and storm surges as it looked a while ago. That would be a net positive for the region, I'd think. If the eyewall restrengthens, however...well, that would be bad. Quite bad.
