Whats the consensus on gasoline octane for the Volvo turbo 5cyl? The manual for my 2015.5 V60 CC says 87 octane minimum but higher preferred. I'm not afraid of engine damage as I don't floor it and its a modern engine, but I'm wondering if fuel efficiency is better with a higher octane.

Finally having all the PO electronics removed today. The install shop called me to warn me they needed another hour of labor to unfuck the rats nest of Parrot Bluetooth, sat radio, and escort radar detector jammed behind the head unit. I'm having a Pioneer MVH-2400NEX and backup camera installed along with hard wiring my dash cam in. I'm a little miffed to be losing the very convenient pocket where the factory cell phone panel isn't, but I'll be gaining AndroidAuto. It's an extra $100 for the steering wheel controls, and frankly, $100 isn't worth it for volume up/down and next/prev track controls. I'll post later with install pics.

Sold my '03 XC70 2.5T and bought this '09 XC70 T6. Super clean in and out, with OCD level service records from the dealership. Apparently I can get the Polestar upgrade for this model, and I have sent an email to a local dealership to inquire about that. I want to replace the interior trim with wood as the etched metal doesn't do it for me. The BLIS system is annoying and I turn it off every time I get in the car. Keyless entry/ignition is rad as heck though. It also has a longer cargo area when the rear seats are folded than my '03 which is great because I stuff as much poo poo as I can into my car when I take it into the bush.

It was factory detuned to 163 hp for tax reasons so the upgrade to 228 hp was pretty significant, but it did give slightly snappier gear changes and better throttle response as well. Not sure i would have paid for the upgrade without significant power gains, but it improves the car overall a bit.

Best thing about the Polestar upgrades is that it doesn't affect the warranty. At least not in Sweden.

It's actually not very expensive, relatively speaking. Goes from 285hp to 315hp, and the fuel efficiency remains the same. I am going to get it done. https://engineered.polestar.com/en-ca/product/optimisation/xc70-t6-awd-automatic-2009

30 extra hp is definitely significant, not to mention the extra 80Nm of torque. If it isn't too expensive either I would go for it.

Hilton is great. If there's no polestar option for your car, don't hesitate to use him. My C70 hasn't so much as kicked a CEL in the 5 years/25k miles I've put on it. And it really screams, although I think the 19T is just a great match for the engine here at altitude.

Well gently caress my wallet. I'm pretty sure the noise is my clutch/TOB. The single mass clutch kit is $800 from Viva (The DMF IS $900 ALONE, w/o the clutch). And if i/the shop is in there, it's recommended to replace the RMS ($25) and the Slave ($200) at the same time. Well, at least after this i'll be drat sure she's ready for the stage two flash from Hilton. Edit: Thank jeebus. It's not the clutch. It's the downstream O2 sensor rubbing on the driveshaft from the new IPD downpipe. toplitzin fucked around with this message at 15:56 on Sep 19, 2018 |

Double post. Now I'm truly hosed. Can't shift if I'm in motion. Can shift fine at a stop. Can clutch in and free rev fine. No un matched shifting though. Fml Also, the battery died.

Check the cable brackets on top of the transmission and make sure the cable jacket can't move around while someone pulls and pushes on the shifter, I've heard about that in the past, that the clips can work loose or something. I hope it's that and not a bad clutch/throwout bearing.

Had a loaner 2018 S80 T5 for a few days while the dealer fixed a door handle on my CPO V60. Some thoughts. It's a gorgeous car and drives great. That 4cyl is lightning in a bottle. But nothing is gonna fix the fact that it sounds like a 4cyl. The self driving and parking tech is pretty awesome, but not quite there yet. Its very comfortable but I'm not a fan of the new Volvo interiors. I hate the piano black trim, and it seems like they are turning away from comfortable elegant minimalism and more towards comfortable gaudy luxury. And the infotainment system... Ok, I love Carplay, especially with iOS 12. Works great. And the Sensus UI is not bad. But I don't like the huge tablet thing. I would have been perfectly happy with a smaller screen big enough for the Carplay/Android Auto interface, and physical knobs and buttons for the air conditioning and safety feature toggles. Taking your eyes off the road to swipe around and find those settings is a safety hazard, and very un-Volvo. Also, Sensus feels like a stuttery mess. It's slow to boot, and swiping around the interface feels as slow using an Android tablet from 2011. It's unacceptable, if a $500 Android phone from 2017 can have a cutting edge quad core Qualcomm SOC, I expect a $60,000 car from 2018 to do even better. At least Carplay runs perfectly since it offloads the processing and rendering to your smartphone. When I returned it and got my 2015.5 V60 CC back, I was really appreciative of how simple and elegant the interiors are, and the infotainment may be outdated, but the screen is exactly the right size and the system does exactly what I need it to do. Nothing more.

New Volvo checking in. Actually it's a 2015 but it's still under warranty. Got it with a wet kit and t&e fluid pump and pristine mechanical condition for a decent $85k cdn. 600hp and 2300ish ft-lb torque. There is a euro OEM tune for 700hp but I don't need to burn that much fuel.

My 240 was hit and ran on while parallel parked two weeks ago. I got her home but the whole loving thing makes me so sick I don’t know what I’m gonna do with her A Volvo shop owner I know offered a replacement quarter panel which might be worth taking but the whole thing is so bittter and nasty to me now I might just part the old bitch out. This also was the day I got back into town after taking it on a 4-day, 1200 mile trip to the beaches of NC, Charlotte twice, and then back home. berth ell pup fucked around with this message at 22:29 on Sep 25, 2018 |

Oh poo poo, that's been dead a while. There's a guy on swedespeed who sells high strength sleeves although I've also heard the stock 06-up manual sleeves are better than before. I don't know if they regularly stock them but here's the guy with info if you want it. https://forums.swedespeed.com/showt...ght=collar+gear When you shop for a new angle drive, call Erie vovo (PA), V and S auto dismantlers (CA), and Strandberg auto (MN). They all have a lot of Volvos and will offer warranties and good prices.
