Yay I got push polled for the Texas Statehouse District 66 race. Started out as normalish questions "Do you intend to vote in Nov? Dem/Rep/Undec, Do you approve of Abbott, Trump etc." Then at the end a whole huge series of "I'm going to make some statements and you tell me if it makes you more or less likely to vote for Matt Shaheen (R) or Sharon Hirsch (D)." "Ok, go" "Matt Shaheen is for fluffy kittens and America while Sharon Hirsch is for making you suck Satan's cock in Hell" etc. Clearly this push poll part was where the money was because they had like a billion of these, they got most of the way through (I answered every one that I was less likely to vote for Shaheen and more likely to vote for Hirsch no matter how ridiculous of course) then I got to where I was driving and told them I was busy and they had to gently caress off now.

I was pretty damned depressed from thinking about the utter insanity that the Stupid Age is and how a significant portion of our fellow humans are loving horrible hateful monsters when I got home from work last night, but then I learned about this tweet and between the ratio and the near universal response from the public my view of humanity bumped up just a bit. Then I realized that I had Beto's Colbert appearance on my DVR and watched that, First thing that struck me was how Colbert has dropped any pretense of trying to be balanced or fair towards Republicans (something I strongly approve of) and how he and other late night and "comedy" news shows have become defacto mouthpieces for the left in countering Fox and the RWM machine. Then listening to the interview I was struck by the exact same impression I had of a certain junior Senator from Illinois from a few years back, Beto may or may not beat Cruz, I think he's got a good shot but this is Texas, however I definitely believe that baring some horrendous scandal coming to light we will have a President Beto O'Rourke at some point in the future. So far their entire campaign seems to be, "Beto is a cool musician who hangs with Willie Nelson, was in a punk band touring the country in his youth and is showing the gently caress up to work." I'm no paid campaign consultant but that really doesn't seem to be a winning platform. Well not for Cruz at least. Another thing that I think people kind of forget when it comes to Cruz is that he really has no support within the Republican establishment of Texas, he was an insurgent candidate 6 years ago running against their chosen successor for Hutchison which might explain how the Texas GOP seems to keep undermining his candidacy by pointing out how awesome and cool Beto is. It's not a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination however I think this year is going to be the year Texas sends a real Texan and a Democratic one at that to the Senate.
