Not sure why the travel ban is affecting weed stocks now when it was actually announced like 2 months ago. I don't think it has anything to do with the travel ban only.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-09-13/trader-gets-expelled-from-nasdaq-power-market-after-defaultingquote:Einar Aas, who’s been active in the market for about two decades, had taken on a position that was too big in relation to the liquidity in the market, Dagens Naeringsliv reported, citing a statement from Aas. After “extraordinary price changes,” in the Nordic and German contracts he was forced to pay the exchange his last free liquid funds. That wasn’t enough and on Tuesday he was put under administration. His portfolio was liquidated by Nasdaq on Wednesday night.

Well, EventBrite drops on 9/21. Good customer retention, good product but the fact that only about 40% of the tickets are paid tickets (that they get a cut of) is a little concerning. They have been stealing some business from ticketmaster etc and pretty much have the market on small/indie events cornered it seems. IPO is around $20. I've talked with a few people who use it for their events and everyone really seems to like it far more than other services they have tried.

Just wondering how much % you guys have in stocks? I am thinking of getting more liquid and hold unto it until the market starts slows down.

I’m fully invested. Each month I invest more. If the market turns down I’ll buy my next equities cheaper. I don’t care if the equities I own decrease in price, I’m not taking gains and paying tax to speculate on the date of the next correction.

I'm at 90/10 which is pretty much the most conservative I get.

I buy everything on a rewards CC set to full balance pay, keep a monthly spend in checking, a 6mo emergency fund in a money market, and everything past that gets rolled into my Fidelity account and then divided into my two investment accounts. Two thirds of my investments are in 10/90 AGG/ITOT and the other third is my 'play' money where it seems like the lions share of my returns come from

My stupid-dipshit-high-risk-high-return-money is about 30% of my overall. That's 30% that gets used for individual stocks, short-term gambles, options, and stuff like that (the stuff this thread is about). I have another 30% or so in sector index funds. The remainder is in Vanguard target retirement funds (and some Fidelity mutual funds). edit: Honestly, just go to https://www.bogleheads.org/ or whatever and do something smart with your money. I am 100% cash in my trading account right now but that is only 25% of my at-risk assets. The rest is closely held companies because regulated equity is boring.

I’m boring, I invest everything but emergency money and my Roth equivalent in essentially VTI. If the market downturns I’m going all in with a max leverage heloc. I’m aiming for 50% yoy in my Roth. Stop trying to time the downturn and ride the bull. If you have decades before you retire you shouldn’t be afraid of a recession.

So what's the next event that could upend the US Markets? Is it the US Midterm elections? The trade war has already impacted some industries and specific stocks, negatively like for WHR. China is probably holding off on any resolution to see what happens during the elections. EDIT: Below is my speculative scenario I've pieced together from random internet postings. I don't have any detailed evidence beyond that, just throwing it out for discussion. If the House and Senate stay Republican-controlled then China will probably have to give in and markets will continue up. But if Democrats gain control of one or both House and Senate then China can probably hold out a bit longer and we could see increased volatility and downside in the markets. Another pending event could be any more significant charges from Mueller's investigation if any more people from Trump's past or current inner circle are indicted with anything. Not trying to bring up political discussion: just purely looking for events that could impact the markets significantly in the next few months. nnnotime fucked around with this message at 22:36 on Sep 16, 2018 |
