Just to be clear, NADDPOD is not about these heroic adventures who defeated evil incarnate and brought peace to the land. It's about the Band of Boobs. If you're a fan of The Adventure Zone's Balance Arc, you will almost definitely love NaDDpod. Stolen from a post I made in the McElroy thread: quote:NADDPOD is a perfect spiritual successor for TAZ Balance. timp fucked around with this message at 15:01 on Feb 16, 2022 |

ONE BIG THREAD e: for content and very up to date spoilers, after Moonshine's long ongoing sexually aggressive behaviour, her making GBS threads herself at the idea of a threesome and inviting Balnor was the funniest possible payoff. I am glad this thread exists. One of the things I love so much about this podcast is that character death definitely feels like a real possibility. I love TAZ dearly, but I have never ever been worried about out heroes. There's an actual sense of danger here, and and that makes this pod so engaging. Also, man, Murph really puts it out there with some of the character voices. Really impressive. ...but if something ever happens to Cob, I'm coming after Murph

I love these guys. It's probably my most anticipated podcast each week these days. They also have a Patreon. $5 per month gets you access to the weekly "Short Rest" podcast, a behind the scenes, out of character discussion about that week's episode.

So I listened to the first episode last night, and I’m already kinda in love. It reminds me so much of early TAZ: Balance, which is still my gold standard for a comedy RPG podcast. I was nearly in tears during the exchange between Beverly and the scoutmaster. “So all I gotta do is get the gold back from those ruffians over there-“ “Nope. Don’t talk to them. Don’t get the gold back from them. That’s just a loss! Let’s just chalk that one up to a loss!”

It can't be overstated what an astounding DM Murph is, by the way. Fantastic voices, keeps the pace of the game up, and manages to keep an interesting, twisting plot going while still rolling with all his players bullshit. I also love "Finish Him." Its a brilliant little flourish and a clever addition.

He's one of the only male GMs who can do a woman's voice without making it a goddamn joke. I'm pissed that Emily said, "the fungus among us" because I had used that line in the little game I'm building. She must have hacked into my computer and stolen it. There is literally no other explanation.

I was looking for another good D&D podcast after catching up with the current season of "Dragon Friends" (bar the Tomb of Annihilation videos), and after trying a few other ones this has definitely caught my interest pretty much straight away. I'm only 3 episodes deep, but the cast seem to be having a blast and everyone seems to have created really fun characters. Beverly being Caldwell's attempt to make an eternally "good boy" shonen protagonist makes a lot of sense now that I've heard him talk about it in the first bonus episode and the interactions are nearly always gold. Hardwon failing every action after making dramatic statements of confidence is great for instance. I'm delighted to have a few dozen episodes worth of content to catch up on. That said, is there a catch-all D&D podcasts thread or anything since I don't see one in the live forums on a quick scan and I'm wondering which other ones might be worth a shot. I've tried a few others, but don't want to get in to specifics if there's a better thread to talk about it in. On a more relevant topic, the OP specified that Brian Murphy created the world of Bahumia specifically for this adventure and I'm just wondering to what extent he's created new elements? I'm not a D&D player, but I have some passing familiarity with the parts Gygax and his successors created from general nerd osmosis and through listening to various D&D podcasts but I've never heard of Crick Elves for instance; so were they a new thing he created or just a more obscure element of the general D&D setting that he imported? "City" halflings are obviously new, and the towns and campaign story are presumably his creations too but I'm just kind of unclear on how much is stuff he's created specifically for this adventure and would like some clarification I guess. tsob fucked around with this message at 21:59 on Sep 15, 2018 |

I think most all the things you describe are Murph's creation, but none are exactly big deviations from the standard dnd stuff, which tends to include a lot of regional subraces that have slightly different mechanics and encourages DMs to branch out by tweaking things like that. Like so far his setting is original in the sense that it's not using stock locations or storylines or anything - unlike how Dragon Friends blundered through the Ravenloft module, for instance - but it's a relative normal high-magic dnd setting that uses standard monsters, classes, and gods. (and I don't mean any of that negatively)

I’ve gotten through three episodes now and I’m madly in love. I think Moonshine might be my favorite? I’m certainly excited to see them eventually go to the actual Crick and hopefully see her “Children of the Crick” goof come to fruition. Beverly is a close second place for me, with Hardwon being last. So far Hardwon has been just fine. Kinda reminds me more of Merle from TAZ, where a lot of the comedy comes from Hardwon/Merle just not using all of the powers at their disposal, or just rolling really badly. But it being Jake’s first time playing D&D, just like Clint, I’m sure he’ll come into his own sooner or later. It takes some time to get comfortable with it.

I don't think its spoilers to say that yeah, they do go to the Crick, and it is such a good arc. If you love Moonshine now, you have so much to look forward to. Also I don't think your rankings will change, but Hardwon grows on you.

Yea, after 11 episodes I am loving the poo poo out of this show. Hardwon having a buff off with a barbarian for ownership of the phrase "watch this!" and finally actually managing something impressive after failing consistently before that, Moonshine rolling 3 1's in a row to turn a quick epilogue moment to wrap up Moonstone in to a battle, Beverly's slow descent in hosed up poo poo, Denny being a complete piece of poo poo all the time; it's great. Plus, as of the latest arc I've listened to I have to say Orc Fraiser Crane in fitted armor is such a great character basis; Adam's voice suits the idea pretty well too. That the arc is delving in to implanted memories only makes it better. Can't wait to get to the Beverly's dad, Hardwon's parents, the Crick and meeting the 3 legendary heroes. That Brian has to write down every stupid off the cuff idea Emily comes up with for the Crick just so he can make the place authentic when they get their is great too.

It's cool that what is primarily a vehicle for comedy silliness can still have genuine emotional pathos at times. I listened to episode 14 or 15 yesterday, where at the end Hardwon is told that his father was an airship pilot, and the pause after he's told it is amazing. As is his line that he was down in the mountain while his father was in the sky. Beverly finding the scrapped versions of his dad's letter was great too.
