solomon david is -so- close to enlightenment. he had the chance to witness it being attained. but his fault is the perfect fault of the patriarch, from the Pharisees on down through to every CEO who drives his business into the ground trying to save it. "this is mine, so nobody else gets to make mistakes with it." his sons could probably do a decent job shepherding his people! they're smart enough to recognize their empire has a single gigantic glowing weak point, behind Daddy's immaculately sculpted chest, and brave enough to put on a united front when he asks them "so, kiddos, how could this break bad for me." but they'll make mistakes that Solomon David would not have made, and they would mar his perfect creation, and so he will not willingly relinquish power for fear they might not do it right unlike someone who realized "actually wait a minute that in and of itself is not doing it right, gently caress my empire, pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs and point me to the nearest swimming noodle vendor"

to reiterate the whole cosmic horror chat I really don't think KSBD is the kind of story where the hosed-up monster overlord of 1/7 of the universe is totally divorced from recognizable human concerns and motivated instead by, like, making really good topsoil or whatever. also was she motivated to become a demiurge? I sorta remember some passing comment that she had some kind of Earthworm Jim situation going on.

I wouldn't be surprised if Solomon's need to be loved and respected was unconsciously influencing the people under his rule. The power of God probably requires constant focus to prevent your subconscious from nudging the steering wheel once in a while. Good luck asking someone who thinks he's almost enlightened if maybe he can't handle basic control over his power, though.

The discussion of the Demiurges in regards to pursuing what they really Want makes me think about Jadis. She's (more or less) seen the Shape of the Wheel, which is pretty much the pinnacle of knowledge, so other than that whole "I Want To Die" aftereffect she's probably one of the closer ones on the path to Royalty, presuming she has something else to want after death so it doesn't slow her down.
