I'm a bit late but I really do like the new Death Cab album. Probably my favourite since plans. One or two duds but nothing offensively so. Will obviously see them when they come to Manchester soon.

You gotta go in full well knowing you're not going to hear My Girls. However, seeing them forced to play one album they are great live. When they want to be. Hope you guys got to see them play sung tongs this summer.

When I saw ac freakin ages ago I was right up front in a pretty small venue and requested Bat You'll Fly and the dude in front of me said he wasn't in the band for that one. Why would I request poo poo off your latest album that you're definitely going to play idiot?? Anyway that's my Animal Collective story.

Ironically, they played My Girls when I last saw them live; but that was like a full year before Merriweather came out so nobody knew what it was, and they stretched out the Beep Boop Boop instrumental arpeggio intro at the beginning to last like 7 minutes To be fair, I saw them when they were touring for Feels one million years ago and that was a super good show. They played most of the album and it sounded fantastic. Polo-Rican fucked around with this message at 16:03 on Aug 29, 2018 |

The new George Clanton album is super loving good if you’re into shoegaze and Kevin Shields’ more electronic leaning stuff from the Lost In Translation soundtrack.

Man. I loved Tune-yards first two albums, wasn't crazy about the next one, and didn't like the new one much at all. This new Eurythmics cover though: https://open.spotify.com/album/3cg6bi7eX2nc1ytQaRkhYQ Is cringe-inducingly bad. Merrill's still got an amazing voice, but I can't listen to that without feeling embarrassed for everyone involved.

AnCo is good, they just get a bad rap because the handful of pop albums everyone loves from them aren't indicative of their discography as a whole. I saw them play Sung Tongs last month and it was great, especially when half the crowd got confused and started looking at their phones during the 15 minute drone track I've been sleeping way too hard on Yves Tumor, this kicks rear end https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Edthfw5Pbxk

I also saw Animal Collective on the Feels tour in Chicago 13 years ago, it was awesome. Saw them open for Fleet Foxes in Maryland last year and it was ok. Wanted to see the Sung Tongs tour but nobody was that interested. You know you're getting something mostly weird when you go see them, I mean their first late night music appearance on Conan didn't they do #1 as their song? Yeah... https://vimeo.com/32743988 T Bowl fucked around with this message at 21:16 on Aug 30, 2018 |

dont get me wrong, im glad people enjoy them. but i feel like ac has become very much like late era flaming lips... where the band has bought into their own hype and have their heads firmly planted up their own rear end. everything they do of late has a real air of 'youre lucky were bestowing this 12 minute dissonant noise track upon you, pleb'

Guys, something is annoying me: my brain can't reach a consensus about something trivial and, possibly, stupid. Is anyone aware of the rather fine song: Considering a Move to Memphis by Colorblind James Experience? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udctidi7GKI At 3:26 he sings what sounds like "Some days I'll have Piroshki's, that's a Polish dish". Now, according to Wikipedia, Pirozhki is of Russian origin and the wiki states: code:
Now, the Polish dish called Pierogi sounds awfully similar. If you look the song up in any number of lyrics sites they all say "Piroshki's", but I suspect that these lyrics sites pilfer each other's content. So what is happening here? Have Colorblind James been giving out the wrong information all these years about the origin of Piroshki's? Or is it a mis-pronunciation in the song, and the lyrics sites are wrong? Does anyone care as much as me about the truth of this matter?

I wish I could find someone with a recording of Erik Rutan playing the Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton with them that didn't have me screaming the lyrics like a loving dumbass because it was so good. To anyone with any interest in them: go see them live. They're phenomenal live.

DasNeonLicht posted:God, what a band. Tell us all about it, please. They were great! It was a great show, and the setlist was good too, except that they don't have that much out and all their stuff is good, so that's a given. They did all of Hope Downs except for Cappuccino City and How Long, I think. They also did most of the French Press EP too, which I was also pumped about. Julie's Place and Sick Bug are two of my favorites. I saw them a few months ago (early May-ish?) on their first U.S. tour too, and I must say that, even though their playing was really good, their confidence level this time was way higher. They did extended endings to a few songs and just rocked, as corny as it sounds. I think the band has really hit their groove touring, and I'm looking forward to what they do in the future! If someone was looking for a cheap night out and would like to see some solid music, even if they've never heard them I'd suggest someone check them out. It's just solid rock music played really well. Shoshie fucked around with this message at 17:47 on Sep 8, 2018 |

That makes me so happy to hear, thank you for the concert report. Great to hear that it sounds like they extended their setlist. I can't wait to see them myself in about a week. I could watch Joe shred all day. Dude is the platonic ideal of a lead guitarist.

I saw Dawes last night at the Palace in Saint Paul. Great show. It was the kickoff show for the next leg of their "An Evening with Dawes — Passwords Tour". I haven't seen them for a few years so it was really cool to see them in a much bigger venue than I ever have, especially to hear a nearly full crowd in a 2,500 cap theater really belt out the choruses. They played two sets with no opener. I missed the first four songs due to work, but on the other hand they played 23 songs. The music started just after 8 and the pre-encore end was after 10:30. Great mix of new and old songs. They did a lot of neat alternative intros, song transitions, a small acoustic section at the start of set 2, and a few extended solo breaks. I won't spoil them but I will say they were great. I also haven't seen them with their current second guitarist, I dunno if he's just touring with them for now or what, but he was great, an amazing soloist, and he even sings . At the end they said thanks good night and went off stage, and the house lights came up. But half the crowd refused to leave, we just kept clapping and hollering even as the stage techs were unplugging cables and stuff. But then the band came back out! None of the people I went with had ever seen this happen after the house lights have come up. It was just fantastic. If you like them make sure to try and see a show, I feel like they just keep getting better every time I see them. e: Also, I'm kinda picky about concert sound, and I thought the sound was quite good. I've seen about half a dozen shows at the Palace and this was definitely one of the better ones. The volume was good, loud enough to rock out properly but not overdoing it for the space. All instruments and vocals were balanced to where I had no trouble hearing a specific instrument if I wanted to focus on it. The only criticism I have was sometimes when (front guy) Taylor sang hard "S" sounds it obnoxiously blew out my ability to hear other stuff for a moment, but this might be a gear limitation or a technique issue on his part. Overall it was really good and I didn't mind too much that I'd forgotten the "musician" earplugs I try to bring with me to concerts. I saw Cautious Clay last week after discovering him in this thread (thanks to whoever shared his music!). It was the first stop of his first tour! His live show could definitely use a little polish, but the tracks from his new project, Resonance, sounded terrific. I got to chat with him a little after the show, too, which is always cool. Go see him if you get the chance! He headlined this stop but I think he's opening for Alina Baraz for most of the rest of the tour. Melanie Faye opened for him, and I definitely recommend you check her out if you get the chance. The girl can shred. https://youtu.be/b2I35ZvAPKo
