I need to travel to some place other than what is essentially my extended backyard but I went out to test the a7ii in low light, from sunset to dark, with adapted lenses and apsc lenses from which I removed the baffles to cover more of the frame (hence the vignette on the first). Is m least experienced with landscapes out of everything else. - I think I have an issue where I am picking things that would be more like backgrounds if there were a subject there but these two I feel like I got past that a bit (even if they are still not that great, they were also after sunset). Edit: forgot this one, which I do like

I think the relatively shallow DoF detracts from these. What fstop did you shoot them at? I know they're handheld etc but I think you gotta go to like f/11 or f/14 for these shots with so much in the foreground.

Thanks for the suggestion, I think you’re right - I need to get used to bringing my tripod. The first two I was shooting wide open because it had gotten so dark that I could barely see. The one I edited in was at 4.5, 1/60th and I don’t have an excuse there because I could have stopped down and handheld it at a slower speed but didn’t think of it. I’m coming from a crop sensor and I have a different look in my head when I think 4.5 or 5.6 so I need to be able to visualize how this looks on a full frame sensor.

Yeah I think you could have gotten away with f/8 on the first shot because nothing was directly in front of the camera.

I went back and edited a few of the earlier shots from tonight and chose one as an example of what I thought was a “landscape” that seemed more like a setting for a portrait without a person in it. Granted there wasn’t a lot around in this area but I was wondering if I am right in assuming I am just choosing things I would for a portrait with slight reframing and not really landscapes that hold up on their own. One plus is that it was earlier and I was actually stopped down, the obvious downside being the low hanging fruit of it being a sunset.

This is like one of those little puzzles that the more you investigate it the more you find.\ 1 - clearly looks like it used to be a taco bell or mexican restaurant 2 - I wonder how long they will leave the 50% off all day on their sign 3 - Grand opeNNNing All of these felt very PNW, then I looked up the casino and indeed, Oregon. I willfully admit that when I first started lurking in this thread, I wasn't quite sure how I felt about these suburban landscapes/didn't fully understand them. They've since grown on me and I really enjoy the story you can pull from the surroundings. Don't know how I missed this but holy poo poo thats beautiful.

Dealing with the leftover smoke from British Columbia was annoying at times but at other points was super useful to give the shots a dreamy atmosphere. Also iSheep's series is the most Oregon coast thing ever, I love it. Only other place I know of that comes close to the same atmosphere is the NC Outer Banks.

Looked back at some older posts of yours and realized I'd missed the night pic you took of Shanghai Cafe. My parents used to get takeout there all the time when I was a kid. Finally got around to processing some photos from a trip to Seattle two months ago:
