TMNT has awkward camera ankles and janky controls. It's certainly no Turtles in Time. It looks pretty easy though so I'm gonna see it through.

Me and my parents found the Simpsons arcade game at a pier on the Isle of Wight and we kept on plugging in the pounds until we beat it. It cost about 20-25 quid in the end but it was worth it.

My sister and I played a Simpsons cabinet once that had buttons that'd just give you an extra life, so we could play as much as we wanted for free. At one point some other quiet kid came by and we invited him to play and gave him 99 lives. 30 seconds later he left and we needed to sit around for half an hour waiting for Lisa to die 99 times.

I have vague memories of the simpsons game at a chuck e cheese but I don't remember if I was actually playing.

I do remember the tiny baby kero keroppi game that was by the ball pit and only had one button.

I'm just making a joke, the percentages for the DKC games were 101% for 1, 102% for 2, and 103% for 3.

I just wonder who even wants to play NES games these days. SNES sure, but with NES the only one I could really see myself spending more than half an hour on is Mario 3.

Yeah outside of a few obvious ones like Mario 3 and like.. Tiny Toons I never really understood the huge draw of NES nostalgia when the SNES was just superior in every way.

there are lots of mega man games that give you much better freedom of movement than hollow knight that feel much better for the kind of precision platforming, that hollow knight is smashing me in the face with 2/3 through the game

Personally I found HK really tight control wise. I really liked all the platforming in it.

Ehhhh, it's one thing if we're talking about "Old games" but this seems like it's leading into a bigger thing about abolishing gaming consoles entirely which...I don't think you'll see any of the big three relenting to any time soon. Like do you really think the whole "Microsoft games day and date on PC and One" thing would have ever happened if they weren't in the position they were in this gen?

You are not going to have fun getting the true ending then (unless that's where you're at).

On that note, man, there is no chance in hell I'm ever going to complete the new content and get the TRUE true ending of that game. I mean, I didn't even 100% it as is (skipping the last arena and a few of the dream bosses) but man that is NOTHING compared to what it sounds like they added. Like a boss rush of every boss, some with harder patterns with it all capped off by a much harder boss of the game fight? Hahahaha! No.

OK, it doesn’t get any more difficult than that (unless you really want to do the even harder DLC area)

That place is really divisive in general. Some people really like it and others really don’t.

Well, that aligns with the vibes I was getting. Which was, like, "normal" kinda vibes.
Arcade games where you can select from multiple characters who have different abilities but don't get the option to switch characters after Continuing belong in a certain place in hell. Like, Metal Slug has no real difference between characters but you know I'm going to cycle between them with every credit. But then you have a game like Strikers 1945 III where ever ship has a different bullet spread, charge attack, and bomb, but once you start you're locked into that ship for the duration.

I'm also not crazy about arcade games like Simpsons and TMNT (I think the og Gauntlet did this too) solely for the fact that, at least on their four-player cabinets, each character has a dedicated spot on the cab. Not only does this mean some characters will always have a bad view of the screen, but it makes emulation harder because those ROMs require extra settings to let Player 1 select their character. Otherwise Player 1 will always be Marge, or Mikey, or whatever. Fine games but certainly not without flaws.

That may be true but the part you're at is by far the most intense platforming in the game and I didn't feel it was an issue for the rest.

Don't try the Path of Pain, though (unless that's actually what you're talking about).

considering this gen has been such a boom in third party multiplatform releases even among a number of big ps4 titles, i dunno if they would've even had a choice

The Plague Knight dlc rules because, while he starts weak, playing eventually feels like you're breaking the game (especially if you've already played through the game normally). Really I like his campaign more than the main game.

Still haven't finished the other two though...

Ultimately consoles are budget gaming computers which is a fine place to be. The majority of games are released on as many consoles as is economically feasible for the developer--which means everything for AAA games, maybe the two biggest ones for your genre for AA games, and maybe just PC for indie games. For indie games specifically releasing on multiple platforms can be basically impossible. HBO can release an app for every device because they have the money to do that; similarly, EA puts their games on everything they possibly can for the same reason.

(There are exclusives that come because the console developer either owns the software developer or paid them a lot of money to make an exclusive, but outside of Nintendo specifically that's a pretty small fraction of popular games)

e: whoa lots of posts while I was typing that

the rate at which that item gives you charge is incredibly agonizingly slow to the point of being useless and the statues in the optional area all have infinite charge, very bad advice imho
