I have seen some discussion over meth testing nonsense. New Zealand created a fake problem by selecting an inappropriate testing level that was used for political gain. If there is some politician pushing for meth testing as an excuse to make people homeless and create a meth testing industry that isn't needed then you may want to refer them to this article. https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/107225424/housing-nz-to-compensate-800-tenants-over-bogus-meth-testing quote:Housing New Zealand will compensate 800 tenants kicked out of their homes for meth tests the agency now admits were wrongly used and not needed. This is a costly disaster that could have been avoided. Even the new cut off point is set ridiculously low. No word on compensating landlords who were misled into major building work because of the testing.

He said he's had it for ~18 months and he has 51 more months, so I assume it was probably a 72 month loan(!) at $480 a month. That comes out to just short of $35,000 for the car. It's possible the payments are variable, or the length might have been for a weird length but yeah. Holy poo poo this guy got ripped off. I'm sure there are penalties for paying early too.

What’s the interest rate on that. He says he has 17k remaining in principle but 8500 in interest It sounds like the price of the car was around 25,000 but he’s got like 15% apr or something ridiculous

Looking at 2014,2015 Camry's with around that mileage today it seems like a price of 10k-13k would probably be fair. So he got screwed both on the purchase price and check-cashing-level financing.

There's always been surprisingly high end Camry packages available and if the last time you priced a Camry was in 2000 or so, inflation probably crept up on you.

This is maybe 30% BWM and 70% BWL but it's crazy enough that I'm posting it anyway: https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/9hakgy/the_house_i_live_in_is_a_biohazard_if_i_tell_my/?sort=top The house I live in is a biohazard, if I tell my doctor could it be condemned? Will my family be homeless? I live in Delaware, USA. So, 2 years ago my family moved into a grand old Victorian house. We were specifically told it was bat free. As soon as we moved in, I started hearing a tremendous commotion in the walls and ceiling of the room I was sleeping in. My parents refused to believe me because they were told by the previous owners it was ‘supposed to be bat free’. They kept up this denial for ages even when they saw a bat literally fly out of the wall. More and more evidence mounted until it became undeniable- there is guano all throughout the walls and on the floor in some rooms, in other rooms it absolutely reeks of guano in the summertime. Over a decade’s worth of guano has been filling this house. One time a pipe froze and burst the ceiling open, and masses of guano came falling out. Every morning it’s like a bat roulette- during the active season chances are you’ll wake up to a bat flying around your room. They’re coming out of the walls on every floor, getting trapped and dying in our closets, baby bats are crawling out of our fireplace, they’re even in the basement for some reason even though bats prefer to live in high up places. In the attic there was evidence of a house fire no doubt exacerbated by their heaps of highly flammable poo poo. Considering how poorly the electric was done here, I am in constant fear of this whole place blowing up like dynamite. Man alive, there are so many bats. So many bats. You can see them leave our roof in droves every evening. This house is a living nightmare of bats and bat poo poo. My parents tried three separate times to remediate the bats- no such luck, it was a huge waste of money. The house is so old, decrepit, huge and its design is so convoluted and inaccessible that with every hole you seal, the bats discover a dozen more. They can fit through holes as small as 1/4th of an inch. And it’s illegal to exterminate them, and my mom refuses to let us try because she ‘likes them’. So ever since we moved here, unsurprisingly everyone has been feeling run down and having chronic respiratory issues. My mom has athsma and she has become so weak and frail it’s frankly distressing, but she refuses to see a doctor. She thinks this house is perfect and gets angry when anyone disagrees. We have a lot of cats and one doesn’t get along with the rest so he has his own private room, unfortunately the only room they could keep him in has a very distinct guano smell and is a bat hotspot. Now part of his lung has collapsed and he struggles to breathe, and I can only imagine it has something to do with the bats. I have pleaded with my parents to rehome him so he doesn’t have to suffer like this, but no avail. Some nights I just wish I could grab him and run away from home. Every time I sleep in that room, I wake up with a low grade fever and pain in my ears, sinuses and neck for days. So I’ve been struggling with chronically feeling ill and then on top of that I developed an extremely rare medication reaction (1 in 20,000 chance) that put me in a specialized hospital for burn victims for a week. Afterwards I was on a high dose of steroids for about a month, and from what I understand this compromises the immune system. I went up to the third floor one day to find something, but the bats are so bad up there there is literally guano spilling out of the electrical sockets. There are dead bats and guano everywhere, covering all of my childhood memories which my parents dumped up there. Anyway. Not long after I start feeling run down, but think nothing of it. Later I nearly collapse at work and have to be sent home- I have a fever, pain all over, shaking, the works. My symptoms have progressed to coughing up yellow bloody crap and stuff oozing out of my eyes, my ears feel like they’re going to explode. I am really sick and not getting much better. I know it’s fully possible I just have a regular bug, but my symptoms also match up histoplasmosis, a disease contracted from a fungus that grows on bat guano. Unlike a regular bug, it can kill you. What makes me consider it especially is how I’ve been chronically sick leading up to getting a lot sicker just after my immune system was compromised. Thanks for reading all that backstory. It’s probably more exposition than necessary, but I have no one else in the world to tell this to. Now here is my actual question- I’ll never know if this is serious or not unless I ask a doctor, in which case I have to explain how I was in constant contact with bats and guano. My mom insists that if I let this information out, they will condemn our house or at least try to force us to remediate the bats, which we can’t afford to do. Can they really do that? I don’t want to risk my whole family becoming homeless over what could be just a normal flu. Please help shed some light on this for me. I’m very isolated and my family is so dysfunctional they can convince me of some pretty crazy stuff.
