I remember when answering machines weren't a thing. There was a rotary phone with a roll of paper in a holder with a pencil on a string. You wrote messages down if whoever was called wasn't home. Each house had one number. Now everybody has their own cell phone so sharing numbers isn't even a thing and the phone can record its own messages. An answering machine with a tape in it as a separate device? Pfft. That's so last millennium. It's the 21st century now, fuckers.

I miss rotary phones :smith: (yes you can get one if you’re a hipster that doesn’t count)

And my parents worked for the university of Illinois so I got first dibs at internets.

FWP: people don’t believe me about true things, and also I can’t find the post I was looking to reply to with this message.

Nobody believes how many things came from Star Trek. I mean, like, the drat cell phone. Look at Kirk and his transmitter and look at an old cell phone.

Another FWP: people think I’m a loser that I know these things.

I just started a new job that is much better (especially the in the long run).

However, I knew my old job extremely well and was training people with regularity. There is a comfort in that.

This new job has all new terms, new procedures and all that. I'm so uncomfortable and on edge but it's not anyone's fault but my own.

I need/want a new job but I’m afraid of this. :( I’ve been at my current place for about 3 years and I know where everything is and how to do everything, I don’t want to have to go back to being clueless and a pain to my coworkers because I keep having to ask about things since I’m new and nervous.

This isn't Middle Earth, Quentin. There aren't enough noble quests to go around.
My husband and I finally got dental insurance and I've been trying to schedule a dentist appointment with an oral surgeon for him, so he can finally get his wisdom teeth removed. Our regular dentist, that happily takes our insurance, gave us three places for oral surgery as referrals.

The first doesn't take our insurance.

The second is closed down, since the doctor retired.

The third is a pediatric-only dentistry.

So I go to the insurance provider's website and search for oral surgeons in our area that accept our insurance and find a measly five options. The first two are actually just regular dental offices and do not do wisdom teeth removal; the third doesn't have appointments available until 2019; the fourth and fifth don't actually take the insurance anymore!

And on top of it, a few of the receptionists on the phone were super rude saying poo poo like "No we don't take that insurance anymore" and hanging up on me. What the gently caress?

:bang:

Edit: Also gently caress meniscus tears, my knee is loving killing me and no one believes it can hurt that badly since I can still walk around. :bang: :bang:

Me crush ass to dust

Is your dental insurance through your work or did you buy it yourself? In general it's not worth getting insurance by yourself. I worked in a dental office for a few months and the insurance world is a shitshow. Even Google/Apple employees have lovely plans and they also seem to have like a dozen different plans within the same company.

Get an air fryer. So much better.

FWP: 2 tiny termite tubes came down from my bedroom ceiling. Now need to drill a hole and spray the foam up there. But I can't find the electric screwdriver or the drat poo poo to cover the hole up.

I probably need to remove my wisdom teeth, this alone would be annoying enough. But my go to dentist/friend of the family that gives us nice discounts for anything mouth related is on a 2 week vacation right now. And I'm really unsure if I should just ride it out with some painkillers and anti inflammation pills, or just suck it up and go to somplace else and get it over with.

Go elsewhere, wisdom teeth extraction is the same anywhere so long as specialist performing it is passably competent. It’s not like if you had all your teeth filled like *this* and the last one like *that*.

Totally agree, but since I could save some bucks by going with "our" dentist I'm just on the fence a bit.

How much is “some bucks” - 2 weeks worth of painkillers and being grumpy at home after work and in mornings because it hurts (and potential health problems caused by painkiller use)?

Also I might be getting a cold. Woke up with a sore throat and now I'm starting to feel weak and tired even after eating breakfast.

I had a bad fall a few days ago on the way home from work and while all the injuries are visibly better than they were, and one of the larger scrapes on my knee has fully scabbed over, the other large scrape is still looking pretty raw and my face and knuckles are a total mess. I hate not having full mobility in my knee. Also I had to get my glasses fixed and my watch face is shattered.

Same. Coughing, feeling generally dull and blah. Oh and my period just started too, lovely.

My friend had me over for tacos last night but my fogged brain didn't realize it was sort of a dinner PARTY, not just casual taco dinner with friend, so i showed up in a tshirt and no makeup and a bandana over my bad hair day hair. So now my socially anxious brain is freaking out about how i appeared to the other guests, who were strangers to me, that i may or may not see again.

I'm tired and muddled generally in my life and just wish someone would feed me soup and tea and tell me it's ok when i spend the day in pajamas.

AC is out. Good news is that it's only a high of 85 this week. Suck news is that that is outside temps and inside, even with fans full blast, we are sitting about 90. We need a new AC unit and that's a few grand.

I saw termite tubes dropping from my bedroom ceiling. Got the foam poo poo again, now to drill holes in the ceiling and loving plug the bitches up.

Did I mention we just paid the house off?

If you have the space, the stand up units with the window hose are $3-400 and can ice down a 500 sq. foot space.

Cost would be offset by how many we'd need, I think. 1470sq foot house and I live in Phoenix.

Now mom is mopey as gently caress because of the money we need to spend, and I'm doing my best not to remind her we wouldn't have a $700 monthly bill IF SHE HADN'T BOUGHT A NEW loving CAR AT THE START OF SEPTEMBER AND GOTTEN ROYALLY hosed ON IT because she insisted on walking around a dealer for hours rather than looking online, and went entirely alone. Oh, and she traded her paid off totally working car for 2k, and NOW hates her new car because 'the seat isn't comfy.'

They are nice because they are mobile. You can take it from room to room if you need to. Like bedroom at night, living room during the day. That's what we did for a while.
