Single biggest reason to do all reps to 6 on a character is the 50% Account Wide discount on rep gear bits. So that 32,000 dil/750 mark widget will be 16,250/375 for you & your alts.

I think I'd rather convert to more dilzen to continue collecting z-store ships even though I already have way more than I'm likely to ever use.

This all went down because some pubbie had the audacity to not hate Discovery. So Crosis went on a hour long meltdown at the guy then started offering prizes to anyone that could correctly repeat his insults in the channel. He was really going above and beyond his usual level of self-important assholery so I put him on time-out. He didn't handle it well. Also: quote:[TheTradingChannel] Slam The'Dar@crosis2014: New Channel Just created TTC Public Service...looking for skilled players that want to help others. I wish I had casual access to recording software or recorded myself regularly because I just did one of the Cardassian arc mission where both versions of Weyoun-10's voice actor's lines played simultaneously. It was like talking to a lovely video game ghost, with what I assume was Combs' lines playing quietly in the background while the original Weyoun's dominated the foreground.

The original voiceover wasn't even supposed to be weyoun. It was original character they replaced with Weyoun once they got Jeffery Comb's to sign on. They've replaced a bunch of original characters in the older episodes over the years. Geordie and Nog show up a bunch in the fed arc now for example.

Windows 10's built in game recording software works pretty well. If it recognizes the game you're playing as a game (works for STO for me), win-alt-r starts and stops recording.

How exactly does the whole Contraband->Dilithium->Zen chain work, exactly? I hear people talking about making characters that just stand somewhere turning in contraband, but I've never actually asked what the deal was.

Moon Slayer posted:How exactly does the whole Contraband->Dilithium->Zen chain work, exactly? I hear people talking about making characters that just stand somewhere turning in contraband, but I've never actually asked what the deal was. There's a doff mission at space dock where you can turn in 5 units of contraband for 2000 dilithium every 20 hours. It's pretty much the easiest way to rack up a bunch of unrefined dilithium without having to do much work, but you can only do it once per character per day. So some people create a bunch of characters that have no other purpose other than to stand near the NPC that gives the doff assignment and keep doing the assignment repeatedly. Once you've got the unrefined dilithium, it needs to be refined before it can be used for anything, and each character can only refine 8,000 units per day -- another reason why some people like to have a lot of extra characters: more characters = more refined dilithium. And once you've got refined dilithium, you can sell it on the dilithium exchange for zen (aka almost real money). So if you want to get as much zen as possible without spending any real money, you need a bunch of extra characters that do nothing but get dilithium in the easiest way possible, and then turn around and sell it for zen. It's all really complicated, but if you've got a lot of time and not a lot of actual money, it's a way to get c-store ships.

Klingon characters apparently have a bunch more missions that will give you some, but I'm not that familiar with that side of things. I'm pretty sure the best way to get it is via KDF doff missions; I don't think there's any other good way to grind it out. You can also buy it off the exchange if you have a lot of EC that you can spend.

KDF - fly over to Vulcan Sector (the square with Vulcan and Sol) and open up your first officer department head. Pillage and plunder the Federation to your heart's content, and do any blue ones targeting Sol itself first. They'll dispense loads of contraband, prisoners, and various random loot.

So, contraband. If you are KDF you park in a spot at the border of several space sectors, then a few times a day log in, move a few inches to cross the borders into the different sectors, and grab the (marauding) missions. Then you stick it in your account bank and use it on alts you have parked at the security officers (ESD is my fave because the bank is close by in the same room). That said, I earn a lot more dil from admiralty than I do from contraband. My contraband alts only earn 14k dil (each) per week, while my admiralty alts earn 30k dil (each) per week by burning through the KDF/Ferengi tour of duty admiralty missions. But running both combined, I earn about $15 of zen per week trading in my dilithium. Of course, I've been playing since beta so these alts just added up over time. greasythepirate fucked around with this message at 22:53 on Sep 23, 2018 |

The classic contraband farms really took a hit when the turn in cool down went from 4 hours to 20 hours. For time efficiency I'd say admiralty whoring is where it's at. Does require a bunch of alts with admiralty ships though, so there is definitely a barrier to entry. Make sure you stick to Klingon & Ferengi missions because they poo poo out a large amount of dilithium every time you finish the tier 10 mission. Romulan just gives you upgrade tokens (I guess if you want those do it) and the Fed tree gives you gently caress all (spec points, which you'll get anyway). With 6 alts supporting one main I could pull in 200 zen a day pretty easily, if you're looking for some kind of metric. I keep it simple and limited because frankly my patience for this sort of repetition is finite and right now my farm is untended.

So I've got the Brel Refit and the Advanced Battle Cloak is practically begging for a All Torpedo Build, but I've been told that projectiles are kinda poo poo compared to just pure cannons on Raider/Escort types. Accurate or is there room for this gimmick?

I kinda want from Star Trek Online the ability to beam down to planets like you can in the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game and its sequels, without the beam-down area being designed like a video game level where there are always hostile NPCs. If someone made a Star Trek game with that approach, that'd probably be great to play for a while Edit: I mean the ability to explore Bajor, the Andorian capital city, or the Tellarite capital city galenanorth fucked around with this message at 10:13 on Sep 25, 2018 |

May be for the best that their servers have apparently been down all morning, I still can't even boot up the launcher.

The closest thing STO has to TOR's worlds are New Romulus, Nimbus, and Nukara. Each of those are pretty large planet zones with NPCs you can run around and shoot.
