That title is bestowed upon one random citizen each year. They must appear at country fairs and other events in the traditional garb of the human being king (assless chaps and a light coating of gravy).

The food isn't the point with Floyd. It's about him getting progressively more drunk throughout an episode. Producing something edible at the end of it is a matter of luck.

Also Norwegian, Polish, Dutch, Finnish, Icelandic, Swedish, German, Belarusian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Danish, Czech, the bits of Italy where they're obsessed with tripe and/or maggot cheese, wherever in France they invented Aundouillette, Slovakian and Russian.

Mission out Ireland and Scotland because they do great seafood and haggis is really good.

Edit: and Austrian.

Little tip to improve welshcakes - add a bit of baking powder and stick them in the oven for about 15-20 minutes, where they will be transformed as if by magic into a rock bun.

What is it with anglos and turning delicious food inedible? I get the whole english self-hatred thing but its just perverse how y'all make eating an ordeal.

Soft, tender lamb shank that falls off the bone and melts in the mouth? Nah, it needs the consistency of leather. Soft, sumptuous snacks with cheeky little sultanas? Nope, has to be like concrete.

if you want to learn more about british cuisine WDTATW recently did a podcast about it that i'm pulling most of this from https://www.podparadise.com/Podcast/1209155455/Listen/1533722474/0

an anecdote is how apple pies in the UK used to use cinnamon because of course it did, that's how you make an apple pie taste good. then ww2 happens, it gets dropped from all the recipe books as it was impossible to source and never never came back. now we have terrible apple pie forever.

To help put this into perspective, Britain inaugurated food rationing in January 1940, and did not end it until July 1954. It was entirely possible to grow up literally not knowing that certain types of food existed, and enter into adult life conditioned to accept bland garbage as the baseline of what's acceptable to eat.

The only things that's really gone is chef's custard, we've got most spices back into recipes. Also hot cross buns are different (and better) since they're made with cinnamon rather than turmeric, which was the really old recipe.

All culinary teasing aside, rock buns are absolutely delicious and are only named rock buns because you take them off the spoon with a fork in ball shapes so they look a bit like rocks.

The outer skin has a tiny bit of crispiness to it but the inside is very fluffy, it's basically a type of scone

yeah it's gotten slightly better recently - i suspect the internet providing american recipes was a factor. british cookbooks still sucked for an incredibly long time tho.

Sometimes when I visit my folks and we have some food my mam (born in 53) will mention the year she first ate it. She'd never had loving garlic until she went to France as an au pair age 18.

Midwesterners certainly don't, but every other region sure as heck does lol.

Actually I don't know about the Northwest.... I've never heard a drat thing about their food. Bad or good. Which is really suspicious.
