You can, but (now that I’m slightly more awake) you have to actually be physically inside the end zone and in the field of play before that's allowed. So for example you can catch a forward pass when you’re just inside the end zone and it counts even if the ball was physically over the out-of-bounds line when you caught it. However, if you dive out of bounds diagonally at the 2 and don’t carry the ball inside or over the pylon on your way out and you also don’t step or otherwise touch inside the end zone, you’re out of bounds and didn’t score. this took way too long to tap out
