I'm watching The Americans and it's really funny how as brutal as the KGB characters get, outside of the defector from the first episode and sometimes their mysterious orders from Moscow, the normally-infamous KGB is always the good guys

Of course we have the hindsight that everything they're doing is for nought, except their final act which saves gorby and ironically dooms the Soviets. An insanely good show tho. Probably the best of the decade imo

I'm only like 5 episodes in but I can't figure out if the writers were aware that the USSR was like 30 years ahead of the US on women's rights at the time or it's just me reading into how the mom spy acts with her daughter too much. Disappointing but unsurprising that it doesn't go total alt history though. Liberals are terrified to imagine after all.

Anyone else wish they lived in the world where the race for unrealistic ballistic missile shields and liberalized election laws destroyed NATO and the US instead of the Warsaw Pact. And don't feel bad about the spoiler lol. Isn't the most recent season like 2 years old

The best scenes in The Americans are when they go into the woods to receive orders and send reports through the numbers stations.

Impermanent posted:of course it happened again. we have china now. Communist movements taking power in china, vietnam, laos, and north korea were great leaps forward for humanity and their perseverance is inspiring. When it comes to socialists in imperialist countries, i think the commune and 1917 are still what many of them looks towards for inspiration though. Which does make sense as the revolutions in colonized countries that have occurred since then faced different obstacles. Since China's leadership seems to have neither the ability or inclination to enforce JDPON, we're going to have to have a revolution in the imperialist core if we want to kill imperialism

Does anyone have something concrete on how exactly the economy works in Rojava? I'm curious how it's socialist apart from rhetoric and equal rights for women.

These kinds of things dont really get set up until the fighting winds down and the revolutionaries can consolidate their gains. This is just as much true for the Kurds and Bolsheviks as it was for bourgeois revolutionaries.

Well if you’re one of those ppl that think “government spending” is socialism then yea I guess drawing paychecks from the CIA to partition a counter-hegemonic sovereign state is socialism
