South Park Season 22 premieres Wednesday, September 26. Last season was bad. The season before was worse. These have been the two worst seasons of the show to date. Will Matt & Trey right the ship and make something worth watching again? Tune in to find out. #cancelsouthpark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3QLNw8Woow

I thought last season was okay. It wasn’t outstanding, but it wasn’t completely terrible either.

Compared to the season before, yes. But it was the 2nd worst season they have ever done.

season 21 was good season 20 was also good gently caress you honestly i think you have to go back to like season 16 to find a truly meh season, and even it has episodes I like. Looking forward to more South Park. A show I enjoy.

Last season was pretty good until it got derailed by reality so I think this one has a decent chance of being good.

But starting off with another episode about current events is probably a bad start. The show has pretty much gone off the rails with the constant "what's on the news?" episodes.

Cool, a school shooting episode. Will either be terrible or good. Either way sure to get South Park a front page CNN article... Also, I like how the episode press release doesn't quite match up to the preview clip. Stan failed the math quiz in the video vs. Cartman in the press release. Unless of course Cartman failed because he tried to copy off stan...

The presidential election season basically got hosed over because trump won and it broke matt and tray and everything they had done up to that point only worked if Hillary won and i get the impression the episode after the election was written based on her winning and they literally changed a few lines of dialogue. Kinda like how they banked on Obama winning twice and did episodes on that. Anyway the season's all connecting episodes haven't been great since they began tinkering with that format its had a few decent scattered about but i kinda wish they'd just go back to random poo poo and maybe it relates to that weeks news.

I'd rather it go back to spring/fall split season of 6 or 7 eps with the boys getting mixed up in adventures that have nothing to do with current events.

Current events episodes have been around a long time. Sometimes they manage to push something out and it hits at the exact perfect time when it's still fresh in people's minds. It's a bigger deal now because people are much more salty and polarized about which side of the issue South Park comes down on. You know there's probably going to be a Nike spoof episode and it will piss off both poles of the political spectrum and has also to compete with some pretty great memes. There's been just as many hits and misses with the show regardless if they rip something from the headlines or not.

I feel like everybody's forgetting last season -- an indictment of the season, to be sure. They (kind of) tried to bring the show back to basics and not tackle current events much or do any serialization or anything. And it was overall sort of "meh". There was one really great episode and sure enough, it was about Trump tweets and North Korea. I think there's no really clear solution for how to fix the show other than "make it better". Or don't, it's really old now and it could just end.

Solution: Go back to split season. It served a couple purposes: 1 - it gave them two times a year to get the creative juices going 2 - they made more episodes so a greater chance at good ones 3 - because they weren't away from the show for 9 months at a time, they didn't fall as hard out of the groove as they have now There are 10 eps a season, mostly made in a 3 month window now. The stinkers stick out more because there are fewer non-bad episodes to balance things out.

So I rewatched some of the superhero eps with my fiancee, and... man, the stuff with Kenny in the Cthulhu 3-parter is weirdly loving good. I don't usually like when a goofy joke gets paid off in a super loving depressing way, but it's actually pretty well executed there, to the point where I'd genuinely kind of like if Matt and Trey did something more serious-ish when SP inevitably runs dry.

It seems reading this thread, a lot of people think Season 20 was the last season of South Park. Season 21 was a pretty solid season, and even Season 20 is actually decent when you can watch it straight through. It was terrible watching Season 20 week by week though. But, that being said. The thing about South Park, even the meh episodes are still well above par for typical cable TV garbage, same thing applies to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Although, I am also a big Matt & Trey fanboy and they probably played a large part in developing my sense of humor since I was in 8th grade when South Park premiered... Jonesing even for a new not South Park project from those guys...

I'm hoping for a fun season of randomness and old-school episodes. I'm bracing for a season of preachy political views, continuity, occasional fun stuff, and the continuation of the loving awful Cartman/Heidi subplot which probably should never see the light of day again. e- Oh maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, the kids' tolerance of gunshots on campus. What are they parodying here with Cartman in the black jacket and his obsession about copying Token's quiz? The tolerance of the school shootings landed but Sharon's course reversal on how she feels about them (to Randy's relief) makes no sense.

Half the people who organized the surprise party at the school were shot and they just stood there with their bandages. The two ways they could play it next episode are either make Stan getting shot a huge deal (which would be hella lame), or just have him wear an arm bandage or something and keep the shooting as a running joke without directly addressing it.
