Bingo. Half the time line dudes, myself included wander in, yell about poo poo, and once we leave the logisticians translate it into “poo poo that actually works and is probably legal” and then get it done. Then line guys can pretend they got it done.

You speak some truth. I've seen it the other way. The best training I received (concerning my support MOS) was WHILE in a line unit. The good commanders recognized the need for support and acted accordingly. I was shocked when I ended up in a strictly "support" unit. I went from senior guys that I could ask for help, advice, training, etc to guys that were blatantly fired for incompetence once people figured out their only skill was running fast. BDE and DIV tended to "steal" the really good seniors to run their shops, we ended up with the short timers and rejects.

Oh yeah. You know why your S1 sucks and can't get anything done? You know why your S4 can't get equipment? Know why your S3 are barely literate? It's because all the good people got headhunted by higher.

Can confirm, and it's going to happen even more when IPPS-A rolls out to Active Army and the Reserve in 2020 because it's going to greatly expand the talent management piece. The days of manning missions just by grade and MOS are gonna dwindle because mob officers and commanders will be able to have dozens of criteria they can filter by.

Between being an XO and a S4, I've worked with a lot of support MOSs. Mechanics are easily the least appreciated MOS. Those guys work non-stop. I hated working with sustainment brigades or transportation units. I rarely could find anyone above an E6 working in their motorpool and offices. They treated their MOS like a business when you made a request. "Oh your request specified 3 containers moving here, not 4 containers. You have to resubmit your request and wait another 3 weeks'

How did they define sexual assault?

From Volume 1 of that study: Sexual Assault of American Civilians and Military Service Members DoD Directive 6495.01 defines sexual assault, consistent with Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) Article 120, as “intentional sexual contact characterized by use of force, threats, intimidation, or abuse of authority or when the victim does not or cannot consent. Sexual assault includes rape, forcible sodomy (oral or anal sex), and other unwanted sexual contact that is aggravated, abusive, or wrongful (including unwanted and inappropriate sexual contact), or attempts to commit these acts” (DoD, 2013b, 2012). To be clear, DoD defines consent to include “words or overt acts indicating a freely given agreement to the sexual conduct at issue by a competent person,” and consent cannot be satisfied if the person is “sleeping or incapacitated, such as due to age, alcohol or drugs, or mental incapacity” (DoD, 2013b, 2012). These definitions are consistent with most U.S. state statutes on sexual assault, the majority of which include both penetrative and non-penetrative sexual contact crimes, offender behaviors beyond physical force such as threats and intimidation, and inclusion of situations in which the victim is not legally capable of providing consent (Tracy et al., 2012).

Maxpedition makes really good bags. They're on the expensive side, but they will last you the rest of your life. I've had mine for more than a decade, and I've had 0 issues with it.

I like my Goruck GR1 but that poo poo was more expensive than what I think it's really worth. I was given it as a gift when it was on sale. If you can get one of their regular backpacks on sale they're tough as gently caress, and don't make you look like a tool when you're out and about in the real world. And black is always AR 670-1 compliant.

I was rocking my old ALICE pack, civilian sleeping bag, and a 90's single chin strap Kevlar. That poo poo felt so comfy since I have my pack dialed in. Additionally, they made me sign for a new issue of TA50 in August (a month after AT) and return it September, because my 90 day window is during a dark month. I can't wait to be free from this hell.
