Random musings on Halo 3 upon completion for first time: Core Halo gameplay is still as unique and good and quality as ever. Nothing quite plays or feels like Halo, or at least Halo 1-3, and it's all good. I beat 1 and 2 for the first times ever within the past year, but started 3 quite a few months after beating 2, so my memories of 2 might be a little dim and hazy. But I remember it being really good. And Halo 3... not so much. The story is non-existent, unlike Halo 2, which seemed to have a driving force behind the plot. I don't know, maybe it was just the Anniversary edition CG scenes, but Halo 3 had nothing beyond the general idea of the story arc. Only 1 or 2 new weapons, and they weren't very useful or viable for large chunks of the game, nor were they very interesting. This game was Assault Rifle and Battle Rifle the whole time with maybe a little Brute Shot thrown in toward the end. That's it. Disappointing. Enemies- zero new enemies except for the flying things? Maybe 2 new flood variations? Just Brutes and Jackals and Grunts 95% of the game. Maybe that's typical Halo, but goddamn. Nothing remotely interesting or exciting. Now don't get me wrong, like I said, the actual gameplay is pure Halo goodness, but goddamn the whole thing was just a little disappointing and underwhelming. Obviously this isn't 2007, but poo poo. Oh but I will say this, the Hornet is bad-rear end and easily the best vehicle.

3’s campaign is very uninspired. There isnt any of the inventiveness of the previous titles but its executed really well, which is a bit of a let down even if everything it does is done well. Good thing the multiplayer was so drat good.

Never said I was the one doing the dying. Just said that I get sick of how that plays out. Modes with vehicles are better, but none of my friends have ever been Halo people so I never stuck with it.

I used to play H3 split screen online every night with my future-wife, her cousin who was our roommate and an xbox live rando who became a regular fixture with us who was named "SMD human being" and could talk XBL trash with the best of them. Probably the best mp days in my entire gaming life.

On one hand I wonder how someone becomes a giant xbox fan without ever really having gone through a Halo addiction, but then on the other hand I can see why you'd still be one if you didn't have to experience something that good tumbling from the top spot to the bargain bin.

Breakdown was the best singleplayer FPS of its era. Jet Set Radio Future is better than Jet Set Radio. Panzer Dragoon Orta was incredible. Sudeki was an unbelievable piece of poo poo.

My first Halo game was Halo 3 and I had no idea what was going on with the story but I played a multiplayer match on that hill map where one team spawns by water and the other up in a base and some guy charged at me down the hill on one of those quadbike vehicles and I hit him so hard with a gravity hammer that he went flying across the map and exploded on a cliff in the distance and it was awesome.

Games like halo and gears are intrinsicly tried to early Xbox live being so good. Once party chat entered they lost alot. They were real social games you could talk to people and ha e fun banter and meet new friends in. It added alot to them. Also the devs left both series but that's the obvious.

Party chat definitely killed the social aspect of gaming. The minority ruined it for the rest of us as usual. My most fun memories of gaming were the social halo 3 lobbies and just ripping on strangers for being bad at video games or getting worked up about it. And the proximity voice poo poo in halo was hilarious
