Pretty sure Earnhardt crashing and giving Larson an extra spot took Johnson out of the playoffs... (Although I don't fully understand the playoff rules).

I’d have to watch it again but it looked to me like Truex wasn’t gonna make it through that chicane anyhow, with Johnson spinning into him just making things worse of course. I’m happy with the result either way.

I know the speeds will be the same but the increased throttle response and the huge spoiler punching a bigger hole in the air might really shake up the plate races.

I'm far from being an expert in aerodynamics, but in theory it should be better. More throttle response and a bigger hole in the air should lead to bigger runs in the draft and more ability to pull off a slingshot, but who knows. I'm hoping it's like the roof blade/wicker bill package from the early 2000's.

As long as they can still run in packs at high speed and have giant crashes once or twice a race, I'm okay with it. If they take those 2 parts away, then they might as well get rid of Daytona and Daga.

Big aero package and tapered spacer is basically what the trucks used to run at those tracks back when they were all boxy as gently caress and didn't need a plate to slow 'em down due to the drag. If they're really adding enough aero to the Cup cars to offset that extra ~140hp and still keep 'em under that big bad ~200mph takeoff speed, you're going to see some insane closing rates in the draft and tons of passing (and tons of wrecking when drivers underestimate the closing rates and try to throw blocks on guys who are already halfway up their door panel). Also lots of people getting black-flagged (or not, as NASCAR wills it) for tandem racing on the last laps, because having someone glued to your back bumper with both of you at full throttle will be like switching on a loving afterburner. Of course, it's more likely they'll tweak the spacer to drop 'em back down to well under 500hp after the first practice session when someone gets slam-drafted into the stratosphere on the backstretch and takes out the Goodyear blimp along the way.
