Rip, i was toying about with the idea of only giving guys weapons they could pick up off the ground as a sort of "challenge run".

Is it possible to increase your reputation over the starting value?
I'm assuming it decreases if you raid/do raiding or pillaging missions, but since I never like to play like that, I never really see it change.

Edit: Decreases, not increases

That's renown, which you get for finishing jobs. There's also the one that apparently tracks your reputation as a do-gooder/bandit except it never seems to go above neutral into do-gooder territory.

No, I 100% meant reputation.

It might've been some other word than "reliable" but I'm certain I've seen it say something positive.

I just had a former raider bro beat up peasants and steal poo poo, and instead of disciplining him (because it was crisis time and I couldn't risk losing him) I just said I didn't want to deal with his issues, the closest city, which was my central refueling point for forays into ork land, flashed red :stare:

Luckily it didn't alienate his faction which I was trying to gain the allied faction ambition for, but it got my attention.

SCREEEEE
My current company's rep is up to 'Kind', I think because I've never taken any of the 'bad' contracts like massacring peasants to convince them they need noble house protection, and because I've always taken the good choices in events on this run. I haven't noticed much difference in the kind of contracts I get offered though.

I got a wildman from a circus event earlier that had a rather gruesome description.

Buy drinks at a local tavern now and then and you'll sometimes get a lead. Other than that it's pretty random.
Big camps usually have at least 1, but they're hard to take on.

Mine is at Good right now. In a long term save, I'm currently dealing with the third crisis. First time I've looked at it all game since I don't remember it changing at all in the past. I had a run last for 400 days before and it was always at Neutral no matter what I did, so it seems they patched that at some point.

Broken Cog posted:

I wouldn't even say they usually have one. Big Orc camps, Necrosavant lairs and Goblin cities are the most likely ones to come with a unique but it seems like it's still at most a 50% chance. At least Necrosavants are easy to kill once you can send 12 bros in 200+ durability armor in against them.
Huts and graveyards never have uniques (but tombs sometimes do), and I don't think I've ever found one in a Necromancer hideout.
Orcs in general appear to be the most likely to have uniques in their camps/caves. And Orc Warriors and Warlords can carry uniques as well, although I've only found their cleavers useful myself. Those cleavers are amazing if you manage to find a bro that can use them, though.

Also, if you see Hedge Knights in Brigand groups, they're very likely to have uniques. I've only seen them with unique swords, flails and two-handed axes but maybe there are more options for them.
I've never seen Master Archers, Knights and Swordmasters with uniques myself but I think I've read they can all potentially have unique weapons.
Brigand Leaders can have unique shields but it's incredibly rare. I think I've seen that once or twice and I must have killed over a hundred Brigand Leaders by now.

Also, on that note, I sacrificed two good dogs to keep a retreating Hedge Knight with a unique sword in place while my bros caught up with him earlier. He didn't drop the sword. Those poor dogs died for nothing and it's all my fault. :smith:

I killed a hedge knight for his flail and the flail was named "Hedge Knight's Flail". I've never got a weapon from one of them before so I don't know if this is a default name or if the procedural name generator just really nailed it this time.

every time i've killed a hedge knight with a legendary, it's always been called "Hedge Knight's <BLANK>"

I really need to try the wilderness raider strat some time, is there anything more to it than just throwing yourself out into the wilds looking for trouble and returning when you're too beaten up? At what point does it start to be viable?

the answer I got last time was basically day 1 (or 2-3 whatever it is once you get going) but I've never been successful at it, I'm also garbage at this game. Still can't wait for the DLC

its a lifestyle just head out on the woods and get weird

Usually when you start out you can take 1-2 battles before you have to head back, but when you get some good armor/enough Brothers to cycle out when someone gets hurt, you can stay out there for as long as your rations and tools last.

I usually start looking for huts/ruins around day 15-25 depending on how well the earlygame goes.

Edit: also, if you get a mission that has a head count, you can raid a ruin, and it will count enemies killed there for the bonus.

In general I start doing it in earnest about a week or two after I've gotten my Renown to the point where I can take noble contracts. At that point I have 12+ bros, decent archers, T2 weapons and the bros that matter should be in decent armor. Before that I mostly attack huts (from day 1 on) and Berserker caves (once I got at least two archers with 70-ish Ranged Skill and Bow Mastery). Sometimes you run into doable Brigand camps or Ancient Dead lairs that are guarded by Auxiliaries only early on, but the window for that is very short on Expert. At some point, about when 2 skull Brigand-hunting contracts are no longer threatening, Necromancers, Brigand camps and small ruins are doable. Everything beyond that depends on how soon you get heavy armor, how many bros you lose and so on. At some point you just start snowballing really hard.

Also, how many uniques you get out of this and how good they are seems to depend very heavily on the map seed. I don't know if the Lindwurm DLC or some patches changed this but initial lair locations and the uniques in them were fixed in the past. I know both I and another person posting here played on 2c9a5e and found the same uniques early on. If you continue playing for hundreds of days that won't matter but it means there's a lot of variance when it comes to what you find before the first crisis hits.
