I forgot what thread I was looking at. Too many tabs open. Still stand by my recommendation though, even if it is a complete non-sequitur.

I'll probably get a month of the DC streaming thing if only to binge through the Batman and Superman cartoons, probably wait until Swamp Thing or Doom Patrol come out though.

What's on your mind, Axa?

Frankly, that episode by itself is amazing and completely justifies the entire show. It's pretty standard little kids show, but as seen, has its moments.

Luke Pearson's Hilda is getting an animated series, and it's coming out tomorrow, and this intro looks really nice despite the unfortunate timing w/ Grimes:

A 22 minute Ghost-Spider special and a 44 minute Ironheart special: https://www.marvel.com/articles/tv-shows/two-new-marvel-rising-animated-specials-are-coming-your-way

I agree about the Doreen misstep, which was clearly a fudge onto her character to get the story beat in. I agree with all your other points too; I was thankful that America quickly got on board - I find a lot of people besides Ewing and Gillen struggle with making America cool and aloof rather than arrogant. Which is a fine line, being fair.

I'm pretty sure she was never totally confirmed to be a mutant, but it was always just kind of assumed that she was because that was the catch-all for "character has powers but no origin", but then when there was the whole hubbub about Marvel not being able to put mutants in movies, she was retconned into being a legally distinct "I was born with my powers, sure, but I'm not a mutant! I guess I'm just my own special thing!".

It was very wink-wink nudge-nudgey. Before a certain point Squirrel Girl had always been a gag character, so she hadn't merited backstory or a proper origin.

Wasn't that just because the real Avengers threatened to sue them, and then it became a bit of a running gag that they could never figure out a proper permanent name*(I remember a Thing comic where Flatman showed up and each time he tried saying what his team's name was a member from the team that he was stealing the name from would very blatantly threaten him with harm if he kept using it, so he ended up going through pretty much every team name Marvel had with none of them being able to stick)

*until the most recent GLA series where it turned out that due to various legal issues Flatman's claim to the Avengers name was the only legally valid one left, so as part of getting the rights back the "real" Avengers team gave the GLA permanent recognition as an Avengers team

Marvel's animation has been in the toilet since Avengers EMH ended...if not while it was airing. They still using Man of Action?

Not like DC's doing any better lately though. But Batman Ninja looked nice at least.

It's just...really not visually pleasing at first glance. Maybe it'll get better if I read it.

Though it could be worse. There were artists who did Batman: No Man's Land that were literal scribbles on pages so....

As far as I can tell they're working on Big Hero 6 and Mega Man: Fully Charged. (Also Avengers Assemble still if that's ongoing.)

The art isn't what you'd call "beautiful" but it's expressive and distinctive, much like a cute girl with giant buck teeth. It's hard to imagine the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl comic without it.

That's a pretty bad scan of it, though; it doesn't look washed-out in the original.

Still ongoing but with a major retooling, now it's way more stylized and focused on Black Panther.

I still need to see Secret Warriors, but the style looks fine to me. Colors are nice, style is a little generic but pretty fun and at points very expressive going by previews and the Initiation short/episode/whatever.

Honestly, I'm extremely happy with where Marvel Animation is at right now. It looks nice, which is a massive step from everything looking exactly the same kind of brickhouse that barely move and backgrounds being just pictures of new york with awful effects on them.

Watched the Constantine City of Demons movie and I have really mixed feeling on it. There's parts of it I liked a lot and parts of it I really didn't. It's a 90 minute version of a 70 minute thing that will be on television next week.

Kinda wished I'd waited for the 70 minute show, one of the earliest examples of the extra footage was 5 to 7 minutes of just straight out animated snuff porn. Constantine doesn't say anything during this, just makes angry glances, so I'm guessing it wasn't in the script Matt Ryan was handed when he lent his voice.

i finished the new frontier the other day, and it was so good, so i decided to watch the animated version and it's weird to watch this story played out entirely by choosing a scene here and a scene there with hardly any surrounding context. It feels incredibly disjointed and i'd be curious if you haven't read the book first if it would be coherent at all

I haven't read the book and enjoyed the cartoon quite a bit. It didn't feel disjointed at all to me. My only complaint (and this is a complaint I have about a lot of Justice League stuff) is Superman getting jobbed pretty early to show how dire the threat was.
