Every western counter-espionage agency will be looking for travellers following that passport pattern. This could be a genuine disaster for the Russians, depending on just how hilariously lazy their prep has been.

If the sequential passport thing is GRU specific and widely spread, then it will take exactly 1 junior immigration service analyst per country to figure this poo poo out.

More pro-tier spy work from the GRU, one of the officers detained in Holland and ID'd today was using his real name, which we found on a leaked Russian Car Registration database, and he had registered the car with his office address, his office being the GRU. So we searched that address in the database, and found 304 other cars registered there, listed with the names of their owners. https://www.bellingcat.com/news/2018/10/04/305-car-registrations-may-point-massive-gru-security-breach/

I guess it's a result of rapid growth of their intel forces coupled with old guard moving to organized crime, private sector or retirement. Or the Petersburg mafia gets the pick of best dudes finishing academy. Their boss is the president, after all..

A guy I know managed to run over the head of the intelligence training academy in moscow a few years ago. Russia actually made a bit of a deal out of it, since he was a british diplomat, but he was just a bad driver not used to moscow driving (he'd always have a driver, it was the first and only time he tried to drive himself) I thought my friend just had some horrible luck, but now I realize it was an amazing british intelligence operation to injure the only competent instructor at the academy and result in a whole new batch of incompetent spies. It's the only explanation.

Supposedly if they register their cars to the address they get a bunch of benefits only available to military officers, same with their housing registration. Seems the leaks are a result of some really bad planning, probably should have created an alternative system for their spies.

Meanwhile in Poland: The ruling party just approved in the initial vote a bill brought in by antivaxxers, which would abolish mandatory vaccinations entirely. It will go on to committee and there's no reason to think these tinfoil hat idiots won't make it into law. At about the same time, tapes of PM Morawiecki surfaced from his time as a banker allied with PO (the then-ruling, now-opposition party). In them, he agrees to pay a politician's son 100K PLN (about $25K), presumably from the bank's money, in a fraudulent contract for fictional work. Also he complains that the plebs expect too much these days and it was better when they were willing to "work for a bowl of rice". This country, man.

Anti-vaxxers are a real nice bunch in general. Here in Slovenia they keep bringing up bullshit about how "shots aren't mandatory in <insert scandinavian state>, but they have higher vax rates!!" yeah dumbass, that's precisely why they're mandatory here and not there.
