I never was a regular on 4chan, but the few times I ventured there it definitely felt like madness with a few glimpses of genius here and there. The openness and lack of censorship got them nazis and pedos, but it also allowed for jokes and derails that sometimes went to a brilliant place imo. SA at its height was a smug proto-tumblr, while 4chan was the warts and all reflection of the internet userbase.
