Yeah I specifically swapped to the single shot snipers for that one, probably the only time I used them after getting the triple round rifles.

So how on earth are you supposed to handle chapter 14? My only option is to plink away at the boss tank whilst hoping that no enemies reach my home base as that is a game over.

First you murder everything on the map, leaving the middle camp (where the boss spawns) uncaptured. Get your best lance over there, as well as an engineer. Then capture the camp while your AP bar is full (so first action of a new turn, if needed you can skip a turn to carry over some extra AP). Give Penetration, Demolition and Accuracy orders to the lancer (Defend all doesn't hurt if you got the AP), then just keep unloading on the boss. Should go down in 6-8 shots, just be careful when reloading with the Engineer as the interception fire can take it out quite easily.

For you and Leal, I suppose;

You can set yourself up for success ahead of time, but as far as I remember the home base isn't actually a losing objective this time around. You need to push someone up onto the highground on the east end of the map - you can reach it with a shocktrooper or better from the objective flag but Walz will be shooting at you - and take the flag there from the scout or whoever is guarding it. Reinforce with your two lancers of choice and an engineer, they spend the rest of your CP as you like but preferably bankroll a few for next turn. Walz will drive up, the enemies will run around and do their thing, whatever. Have your lancer pair (I suppose three would also work but room would become a concern) walk over to the ledge of the high ground, wherever Walz stopped by, starting with your shittier one and just keep hitting his radiator. Lancers will co-op attack themselves (and the tank) so in five CP he'll eat poo poo. Ammo up with your engie friend. Pretty straight forward, all in all. the only time you need to pull out a lancer i swear to god

There's also an ace in the pile up as well. He's actually got quite a bit of health, but a shocktrooper can still walk over and burst him down. Everything else is completely ignorable. Heck, everything in the first phase is pretty ignorable as well, all enemies go away. You just don't get your turn back as usual because your forces aren't re-arranged. Using the APC you probably could push down the right, drop off a scout to run through the ruins and take the other flag and finish the whole mission in two turns with plenty of CP to spare.

I haven't been able to play this as much as I'd like but man Seigval 1 was a cool map. Def showcases what VC has unique to it over other tactics type games.

I managed it in 4 turns and A rank by taking the middle camp with heavy losses (seriously, like everyone died), but called in a grenadier and scout for reinforcements and next turn blew all my orders on them so they could narrowly take the enemy base. Owns.

I unlocked my first squad story so now maybe Curtis and Eileen will stop making eachother worse merely by being in eachother's presence.

Why does everyone always have to be from Gallia in these games anyway? Do they really expect the playerbase to be that attached to it or is it just because they don't want to have to flesh out out other countries?

Use defense all order and up a few troops near your base with spare cp, leaving enough to cap the left base with a scout (just retreat out after it's done) and the right side with a scout + shocktrooper + apc. Then run your scout on the right side up the right ladder and pop the shocktrooper with a grenade or your rifle (can't remember if he is crouching). Cap that base and deploy a lancer and an engineer. The valkyria will rush your base and maybe KO a person while the rest of your team defends the base (APC might die to the gatling on the tank, but it's whatever). Next turn just run your lancer to the edge and spam the radiator with lance shots, refill with orders and engineer as needed.

This map caught me by surprise the first run but I had enough to salvage it.

Man, I'm really happy Odin was one of the scouts that ended up with Double Movement.

Like, there's zero reason not to use Minerva when you want to Direct Command, and most missions I've wanted a second scout Claude was out of the tank, but still, go Odin.

I think they just got locked in to the 'also evil' category in VC1 when they tried to kidnap the Gallian princess (Cordelia?), so they're giving us Gallians to just underline we're good Federation people.

It's a cheap way to make the series feel interconnected, too. Only the four are actually from Gallia, though. (Maybe some of the others are, but it's not highlighted.)

Alright, picked this up this weekend (had it on preorder, but couldn't pick it up for a few days) and have been slowly making my way through. Just finished Siegval, and man was that a slog. Managed C/A/A, but map 3 was incredibly dumb (due to super tank). Actually thought it was going alright, right up until the goddamn machinegun on super tank chewed through the remaining HP on Hafen while trying to do interception fire on an engineer I was moving up. Just got lucky that the Sniper/Scout/Shocktrooper I'd put up north turned out to be a workable combo for just punching through that mortar gauntlet.

Siegval 1, for all that it was my lowest ranked one, felt fine on the other hand. Just got a bit lost running through it the first time through.

A quick update on my handling of 14. I freaked out because I saw how little damage I was doing but when I tried again and made sure to have two lancers the tank fell apart under a constant barrage of lances.

In my case? All Units Defend, have Odin cap left point mind the Valkyria once it spawns by the by. Direct Command Minerva to bring Aoife and Riley with anti-tank mortars up the right side, get the point, blow the boss up. Took me a few tries but it worked in one turn.

So I had a big plot point spoiled thanks to a voice actor and I was thinking about it (late-ish spoilers, chapter 9) I knew that Kai was working for the enemy and I thought the only way this could get dumber is if Leena was put in his place as a mole and WELL GUESS WHAT HAPPENS god this story is so dumb. It's so predictable, if there is a cliched place to take it they will drive it there at full speed.

Without doing a squad story that requires banking 1million cash that last one is just her turn randomly ending at any moment shes active.

Shes still great.

for those having a hard time against certain tank bosses (lmao it's just one c'mon) snipers at level 18 give the penetration order, which makes it a lot more one-turnable in combination with demo-boost.

apparently a shocktrooper with that and demoboost can whittle walz down but grenadiers work just fine

I don't care if you're a star, the moon, or the whole damn sky, you need to come back down to earth and remember where you came from
Been playing this on and off in-between schoolwork and other games (only on chapter 4 so far). A few thoughts!

-My opinion of Raz plummeted from "What a tool" to "Get benched and die." somewhere around chapter 3.

-Squad stories are the best.

-Rosetta is the best! (Haven't done her story yet though)

-Ferrier is a close second.

-I really like how lax the game is with the A ranks this time around. I felt like I was taking too much time on Siegval 1 and I think I got it just barely in 3 turns. I had to pull out some weird rear end scout/sniper/mortar/APC voodoo to get it to work though.

-Speaking of which, I really shouldn't underestimate mortar interception fire! That has hosed my poo poo up so much this time around.

Overall I think I like this one more than the first so far, although VC1 did have a better start IMO. I hope it sold well enough to warrant another sequel.

Uhhh, this first Extra story is not particularly nice. :stare:

First battle wasn't too bad, even with people in bad positions to get back to the escape point. But, uh, Crymaria moves and covers the entire front half of the field now? Getting four people to the escape point is a damned tall order.

Also the squad stories are pretty great but Notorious Bastards is a particularly beautiful thing.

Just ignore the entire map, have Rosetta bus two others with her down south, take out the tank, etc, get the other scout in there, next turn just rush to the end.

Doesn't help that none of these morons are actually at Corporal (or even PFC, I think, except maybe Hanna), so I'd need to spam using one of the scouts on a skirmish for a while or I'll just have to come back later.

Finished up the rest of the skirmishes with A ranks today. A few cheesy strats (re:savescumming in a few maps) but it worked out (stop triggering your potentials when you have no ammo left Riley :negative:). Generally just had to do a bit more cleanup than usual then push to the base, I even used a ship order for once.

Still missing a bunch of medals and probably a few squaddies, but need a break after marathoning the last couple skirmishes in a row  .
