EXTREMELY PISSED AT THE DNC
The Runaways was one of the first comics I read. It was in it's collected hardcover edition in my high school library and I enjoyed it then.

There's a new series that apparently he's been going for a bit. Is it any good? I understand a lot of the post-original run was been mixed.

New series is great. Maybe even better than the original, which I'm not sure has really aged quite as well most think.

Current Runaways is amazing. Read it.

Any Birds of Prey recommendations? Are the New52/Rebirth comics any good?

Also, are the Batman Eternal and Batman and Robin Eternal books good? I skipped them because weekly comics hurt my budget, but they are very cheap on Comixology now.

I'm looking for a recommendation along the lines of Bone. Something upbeat, fun, maybe on the cartoonier side of things, and ideally fairly long and complete.

Usagi! It’s a samurai rabbit who is on the warrior path. It’s one of the best comics I have ever read. It’s not complete but it’s been going on for a long time and it’s all done by one writer/artist/inker.

These both look great, thanks!

It looks like my library has the first three collections of Usagi, so I'll check that one out. I guess if I really like it, there's always the $48 collection for Kindle on Amazon... oof.

Think Usagi is on sale on Comixology right now in the Dark Horse sale.

I’m avoiding looking to spend more money right now.

Hi everybody I just got into comics recently. I got Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Batman (Killing Joke, Long Halloween, Hush) and I'm really interested in Spiderman and Hellblazer but have no idea where to start. I prefer big volumes to a ton of issues.

I don't know authors very well besides Alan Moore but I like the noirish style of Long Halloween and Hush. I've heard about Arkham Asylum and Year One and Dark Knight Returns for Batman, are those along the same vein?

Year one has a sorta similar feel to those, maybe, but asylum and dkr do not. If you want crime stories I suggest the Brubaker/Lark books they released through Image.

I believe in a universe that doesn't care, and people that do.

What kinda spider-man stories do you want to read? High melodrama adventures about him starting out as a hero? Fun lighthearted tales where the good guys always win? One and done team up adventures? Dark deconstructions of his character? Stories about maturation and legacy? Relentlessly depressing cavalcades of unfathomable human suffering? Dumb garbage with no redeeming artistic value? Personal and emotionally charged tales? Stories about overcoming impossible odds?

The character's huge publication history is intimidating, but if you know what flavor of Spider-man you're hankering for, I can suggest a good place to start.

You're right, it picked up after issue 6. I can see why people don't like it, the story jumps a little bit, and the characters "growth" seems a bit too fast. But looking at the Wiki, 19 issues in 4 years is super slow and I figured that they needed to get the point across quickly.

I'm going to be very broad as to what counts as a "superhero" so you can just pick what suits you the best

- Chew (food powers)
- Sex Criminals (sex powers)
- Glory (rip and tear powers)
- Beasts of Burden (Hellblazer but with dogs[and a cat])
- Ragnarok(Undead Thor)
- Klaus (Santa Claus powers)
- Umbrella Academy (dysfunctional family powers)
- I Kill Giants (power of imagination)

I dunno if it is the right thread to ask this:

I'm ordering the Frank Miller's Daredevil tpbs. There are three that cover from Daredevil #158 until #191. The problem is that after that, my only option is one called "The Fall of Murdock", covering Daredevil #227 until #233. I realize there is quite a gap there but is it missing some critical information and I should stop at the first collection or can I just jump from one to another?

Also, after that, it is a straight jump to Kevin Smith's Guardian Devil (Daredevil #1 until #8) which I'm not very keen into getting unless someone stands by it, and then Bendis' run, from Daredevil #26 until #93(There's some Brubaker at the end but it is all bundled together).

I actually already read the first Bendis' TPB at Comixology and the first Mark Waid run but I'm wondering if these others collection will shed some light on some details I missed like Fisk being blind and knowing Matt's identity or how he handles it going to public.

There's a Denny O'Neil collection somewhere between the Miller Daredevil runs. Can't remember what the trade is called though. You don't want to forget the Man Without Fear miniseries either. Skip the Smith stuff. Read all the Bendis, Brubaker, Waid, and Soule you can.

Servoret

Most of the details you’re curious about are events that happen during the Miller and Bendis runs. Nothing important happens in the Denny O’Neil issues and they’re not very good. Just start with Miller and skip to Bendis. Kingpin is blinded right before Bendis takes over and that’s all you need to know about it.

I just wrote a scholarly article on Daredevil, but pretty much just discussed Miller, Bendis, Waid, and Soule, plus David Hine's Daredevil: Redemption miniseries that took place during Bendis' run. I enjoyed Brubaker's run (and would recommend it post-Bendis) but left it out of my article, and didn't feel the need to include Smith or Diggle (who was between Brubaker and Waid).

If you have Marvel Unlimited I'd argue for reading the Smith run since it does iirc set up a couple things for the Bendis run and isn't, again iirc, terrible, and third iirc reads pretty quick. And the David Mack issues right after introduce Echo, who becomes important.

Would you be willing to share a link to this with BSS..? If not totally understand.

I've enjoyed the runs you described (Miller and JrJr's Man without Fear mini was on of my favorites in my early adolescence), would love to read a deep dive on something like what you've described.

I've traditionally been a Marvel/image guy but of late been binging on the Expanse books and show - any recommendations as to anything that's "hard sci-fi" similar to this....?

Could be individual comics titles/series, graphic novels or even illustrated adaptions from other SF books (I'm looking into the graphic novelization of "Forever War," for example).
