I think my company is hosed, noble war has started and I have like 6-7 good levelled up dudes but I can’t keep new recruits alive for long enough to do anything and at the start they are basically just meat for the orc warriors and polearms and marksmen out there.

If you only take village quests you can sit out the noble war without having to slog through endless footmen spam.

Alternately there’s loads of caravans about during noble war so get raiding.

Speaking of Noble war, the ambush at the farm event is pretty rough before you've got a top tier band.
10 top tier Mercenaries surrounding your company to start off, often with a Master Archer or Swordmaster thrown into the mix.

Edit: On the positive side, if you manage to pull through, you can get a shitload of great gear.

That looks cool as hell.

I wonder what other enemies the Alp will appear alongside, though, because two parts of that blog don't seem to match up with each other: when asleep, you can't block attacks and wake up if you take damage, but the Alp has no melee abilities at all and the damage they deal to sleeping characters doesn't wake them. And if you're in a nightmare you don't wake from taking damage anyway. So the mechanics of sleep that directly affect combat would only be relevant if the Alp appears alongside some kind of more melee-focused enemy that would block for them and attack sleeping enemies.

Yeah, that or it's like when you run into a pack of geists without sufficient resolve/rally and you end up getting turbo hosed - except in this case most of your bros will be asleep, some on their way to dying from nightmare, and you'll have the choice of trying to run around to wake up those about to die or trying to kill the now super buff Alps.

It will be interesting to see if the 50-60 resolve range w/ 100+ resolve bannerman is sufficient to deal with these guys (like it is with geists/ancient priests) or if this is going to set a new ceiling and require more bros spec'd into fortified mind.

I am a mouth, and I must scream

If enemies in a lair get pulled into a fight by a roaming enemy band attacking you, does that prevent any artifacts they had from dropping? I ask because I had a tavern rumour mention greenskins to the east stealing an artifact sword or shield. I cleared out 5 or 6 greenskin camps but none of them contained artifacts. All I can think of is maybe one got cancelled by the three-way battle. That or it's even further east I guess, the map does go a long way east. I explored about 50% of the way from the town to the map edge though, clearing every camp I found.

Yeah, iirc I had a Witch Hunter bro tell me what was happening and talked it out with Hoggart. I got a family heirloom for that which turned out to be a unique greatsword.

Did it happen during the undead crisis in your game? It did in mine so I've been wondering if it's tied to that or if it's just extremely rare and happened to occur during the crisis.

No idea about that but if there's a rumor the place you need to attack is usually relatively close by.

It was during the undead crisis, yeah. The bro the event selected for me was just some noble so I didn't think his option would accomplish much. I burned down Hoggart's house and then stole the armour off his dead body. Unique light armour for one of my archers, pretty nice.

So I took a 800g 2-skull goblin mission around midgame (day 45 or so), and it was in an abandoned hut, so I figured it wouldn't be too hard. But when I reached the destination, I got a message about an ambush, and got put in a surrounded position against 22 goblins, 10 of which were wolf riders that could reach my archers on turn 1.

That's a pretty straightforward way of saying gently caress you to the player I guess.

So if the customer starts talking about goblins, immediately skip town and skip the next one too just to be sure, got it.

One of the great things in this game is every hostile faction being able and willing to fight each other. I just had a 4-way between me, raiders, goblins and undead, with 39 hostiles.

The battle took place in a forest so I didn't see much, the noises went on for some time though. My part in the fight was murdering some hapless fleeing brigands and then putting down
beat up ancient legionnaires and fallen heroes that staggered out of the trees after everything else was dead. I really hope I get something similiar in open terrain one day.

The Skeleton King
Jul 16, 2011

Right now undead are at the top of my shit list. Undead are complete fuckers. Those geists are fuckers. Necromancers are fuckers. Necrosavants are big time fuckers. Skeletons aren't too bad except when they bleed everyone in the company. Zombos are at least not too bad.

Alright, so if you’re new to Battle Bros I’m going to tell you about gobos. I’m putting together a guide of my own.

In most playthroughs, goblins, orcs, and the undead will each have territories. Usually orcs control wild lands to the south while goblins tend to hang around forested places near the center latitudes. The undead will usually be wherever the hell they feel like, as will brigands.

The reason these territories matter is because when a contract mentions greenskins, the area you are going to will usually determine if you are getting orcs or goblins. It’s useful to know which one is hanging out in which parts of the map.

If the contract mentions goblins or you believe it’s going to be goblins you need to be prepared. Goblins prey on anyone who doesn’t have a shield and archers are going to get it bad. Anyone without a shield is going to be prioritized by archers and goblins are motherfuckers about this. If there’s wolves then you need to have melee bros on both ends of your second row so you can quickly encircle your archers before the wolves catch them. If it’s foot goblins then I’ve found it to be helpful to use all shieldbros and attack at night. Either way, it’s good to have lots of kite shields and use swords, flails, and spears to make sure you hit them. Later on when you have some heavy armored bros and poo poo you can just do it however works best for you.

If you get ambushed your archers are always going to get screwed. If things go bad enough just load your auto save and change some things. There’s not much you can do about wolves reaching you on the first move, so just plan for that regardless. Also, goblins will occasionally start with terrain advantages like being at the top of a hill. This is some drat bullshit and I can’t help you there.

My best advice about goblins however is this: gently caress that poo poo. Don’t bother fighting goblins if you can avoid it, they are huge loving assholes and you will always have an uphill shitshow fighting them, even when you do well it’s going to be worse than with any other enemy.

I love the details in the art book that the goblins invented democracy and it immediately became an insane oligarchy, because all of goblin society is based on a rock-solid knowledge that the world is unfair and everything is out to smash you so cheat your little green rear end off whenever you can.

I'd like to point out that good archers absolutely destroy goblins due to their weak armor and low hp. At 90+ skill you usually have a 40-50% chance to hit on ambushers, and you can one-two shot them based on if you hit their head or body.

That is, unless you get ambushed, of course.

I've never tested this but I have a feeling a noble company would wipe the floor with an equivalent number of goblins, which would explain why they've never conquered the world.

Sounds about right to me. If you've got a company with heavy armor and men who are skilled with their weapons, goblins can't hurt you very much, while conversely pretty much every hit you land completely ruins a goblin's day. The real reasons goblins suck to fight against are because they love polarms, nets, and have archers who proactively maintain their distance from you, so getting close enough to chop their stupid little heads off is just incredibly annoying.

Today I finally thought 'yes, I can take on a bounty hunter company' after one of those 'take the brigand leader's head' missions.

No, no I can't. Even with 250+ armour on all the frontliners, solid level 11+ bros across the board. Being outnumbered by an entire company of jerks with overwhelm, nimble and weapon masteries is no joke.

Dagger fuckers just netted and punctured the Davkul bro in 2 turns, no messing about :(

I really want the devs to add rare hedge wizard bros. No flashy abilities, just one or two neat utility skills and a pointy hat. Give them some basic world map effect like more efficient medicine usage or potion brewing, and interesting but not crazy battle options like a spell to bandage at range, restore some armor durability, or curse an enemy with slightly less vision.

Given all the wizardry dudes they're adding as enemies I think it would still fit with the low magic theme.

Got an event I hadn't seen before.
Met an army of kids on the road, said they were going north to spread the word of the old gods. I just told them they should go home to their parents, but they laughed at me and went on their way.

I get that this is probably supposed to be a reference to the Children's Crusade, but can you get anything from this event if you choose any of the other options?

I had this event awhile ago, I had a monk and he told them that our group were the crusaders instead and they had fulfilled their holy mission by informing us that we had to go north. They accepted this and went home.

I don't think I got anything except the monk had a morale boost for saving them.

There are many events like that which have special options if you have a certain background in your Band. If you have a Monk in this scenario, he gives the kids a pretty rad pep talk and his morale will go way up.

Also I've decided that despite being a bit poo poo as a helmet, the sack-covered Fallen Hero helmet is a mandatory part of his uniform. I don't care that he literally can't see far enough to stab beyond the adjacent hexes at night time because he's also nearsighted. The sack stays.
