the thought of hunting around a giant map for targets seemed completely unappealing. maybe the only part of this game that has, so far.

Late postgame spoilers/question: I just finished the 3rd of Drustan's challenges, the Luminary Challenge, but there's still 2 or 3 more wishes he can grant me if I complete them again. Can I just do the first challenge area/boss again to get more wishes or how does that work?

Yes you just run through any of them again. If I remember right the second one is the easiest to get through quickly.

There are two new bosses to fight still and they're quite hard.

There's an NPC in Lonalulu who can help make that fight a lot easier.

How do I know what level I should be at? Rab n Jade joined at like 7 levels above me and I'm still only 19-20

I beat the tentacular a couple days ago, very satisfying fight. Erik's sleep knife skill was an MVP. I almost freaked out when I ran into my first king squid shortly after that boss though lol

i beat him at about that level. it was a long fight, maybe 25 minutes .. i didnt use the cannon cos i didnt know about it. so its doable. poison and boulderbringer and stuff is a good idea cos youll have to spend a lot of rounds healing + reviving

a seven level difference in a new party member seems a little high, but exploring lonolulu might be enough to bridge the gap without having to explicitly level

I found out about this way later, talking to NPCs in Dragon Quest always has some kind of benefit and I love it

There is no "should." If you lose, think about why you lost and reevaluate your strategy. If there was something you could have done differently, try that. If it's simply that you weren't strong enough, make your numbers bigger. It's more likely that you'll lose because of poor tactics than because of weakness.

it's pretty amazing that 70 hours in the game still finds items and battles that are surprising or novel

I try to do this too but most npcs have multiple times in the story where there dialogue changes and some even have their own mini-plot if you take the effort to check back every now and then :aaa:

The effort put into dialogue and world building in this game is mind-boggling

That's where I was when I got to the Tentacular, I had Rab and Jade at 23 and the rest of my team around 17-18. I didn't find it too hard because it's a Chrono Trigger boss, but it can hit real hard.

at least in terms of quests, i don't think so. i've had the quest to find that book in helidor the entire game and still haven't finished it. some things become more difficult because you have varying levels of access to locations

Beyond the Platinum greatsword and the recipe book is there anything else I should get from this casino? I went there immediately after getting my boat (20ish hours in?)

I already got enough for those two items. I'd have to do more poker for anything else.

I'd say just move on for now, the casino gets new items after major story events

They add more stuff later so don't worry about it, your winnings will eventually be outclassed regardless
