I thought the episode was entertaining but not particularly funny. I'd rather cartman poo poo out his mouth again, tbh.

Watermelon Daiquiri posted:I thought the homemade cum-cleaner sound effects were amusing I watched it hastily in the morning before work and didn't have time to get headphones, so I kept the volume low and put subtitles on. It was amusing in its own way, though -- the phrasing they kept going with was: [Kumby bloops] (yes that's how they spelled it, although the "cumboni" was spelled this way)

Scooter_McCabe posted:This episode worked on a lot of levels. It felt like an old-school (but not really early), more traditional episode, as opposed to the more recent style of current events. Sure, Catholic priest sexual assault (and coverups) is both a current event and an older one, but that's only because they keep coming in and out of the news like a Catholic priest in a choir boy. Blazing Ownager posted:Actually I'm getting most of my talking points from people I know who actually believe in abolishing borders militantly. Of which I've run into a shocking number. Personally. Like I wrote recently, you seem to have some really weird people in your life (and you need to find new, better friends!) The literal "abolish all borders" people didn't really exist until Trumpler made up that lie for his deplorable followers to use to describe his opponents. I guess this would be the opposite of the QAnon phenomenon, it being a joke on the deplorable boomers except they were dumb enough to think it was real and to go along with it.

But then when he actually won, they totally hosed up an opportunity to turn him into one of their "photograph-faced" characters. precision posted:Yeah. It was well crafted but oddly lacking in laugh out loud moments, especially considering Butters episodes are usually slam dunks. I also got a good chuckle over the only continuity from the previous episode being Stan's arm in a cast because he got shot.

I did laugh at the the whole scene where the adults heckle Father Maxi in the beginning

There were plenty of good jokes in the episode. Seems they started to really tear into the Catholic church with Father Maxi's "cancer" speech but decided to back off and not go full throttle in to it. Also the, priest whistle was pretty funny...

Blazing Ownager posted:Actually I'm getting most of my talking points from people I know who actually believe in abolishing borders militantly. Of which I've run into a shocking number. Personally. I think this ties back into the whole thing of that there's some goofy weird poo poo on the left, but the entire contemporary right-wing is toxic. Focusing on a bunch of small incidents that don't ping on the radar in things that matter and probably won't even happen is ignoring all the pure evil that's going on nowadays. Even if what you're saying IS representative of a good deal of today's left, no liberal lawmakers and senators are proposing arming kids in schools and holding up rapist pedophiles on pedestals. Which doesn't even get into how (I presume) you're willing to buy into the right wing bogeyman of safe spaces and saying it's okay to be white should be allowed, while ignoring the complexities of such things to begin with.

This season is legit good so far, this episode particularly felt very tight and cohesive. While this wasn't the funniest one ever, I thought there were plenty of good jokes nevertheless, too many really to even try to list here. I'm really glad they turned down the serialization a bit, if Stan's cast is the only thing connecting it to the premiere (as well as perhaps something on the thematic level about the adults being desensitized to the real issues), that's just the perfect amount of continuity for this show. It's great that they tried to change it up after 20 years but IMO the show works best when they just do whatever the gently caress seems funny at the moment and aren't railroaded by the overarching narrative.

I liked this episode. We’ve known that many people go to church for the socialization not for their faith, and this episode took that message in the best possible way. Not really a fan of the Father Maxi story but everybody making awful jokes about priests more than made up for it.

I wanted to add since nobody else picked up on or mentioned it, but the Cumbee is a play on the Flowbee, which is a vacuum-powered hair-cutting thing that I myself only learned about a couple weeks ago from another goon in a totally unrelated situation.

What if you still have an ironic nazi av from 3 years ago or more and never changed it because some nice goon spent time and effort making it? Faith in Christ was insanely hilarious to my cold Jewish heart. It sounded fairly accurate to the music of one Murrican I worked with. I swear one song he played was just repeating “he is my saviour” and “Jesus” over and over behind two sloppy chords. I asked him if the song was Jesus my Saviour. It was.
