Hi guys. I've been gone so long we have a new thread. Grad school is hell. So I'm trying to design a project for one of my classes where I use technology to teach a language to someone. I chose Japanese and the students are my boyfriend and me, for reasons that I will not get into because I have been bitched at in this thread for talking about my personal life. We both have Switches so I thought it would be cool to explore gamification in CALL, that is, using games to teach language. So here is my question: Are there any very simple visual novel style games on the Japanese eShop that you think would work for this purpose? Those of you who speak Japanese. I'm talking something with very simple vocabulary. I'm already looking into Hiragana Pixel Party and a Typing of the Dead-style game for kana, but I want something where we would have to read words in context with grammar. And no porn because this is for a school project. I'm not sure what visual novel-type games exist on the Japanese eShop. I know that Game Dev Tycoon is on the Japanese eShop, with an English option. I'm wondering if it might be possible to play it in Japanese though. My professor was saying he taught English to students by playing an old came called Lemonade Stand. I've played it before. Anyone remember it? So Game Dev Tycoon in Japanese might also be an option. The trick is going to be buying something off the Japanese eShop. I don't know how to buy games from different regions, only demos.

To be clear I don't really know japanese, I just went through a couple of textbooks and a few workbooks like 10 years ago. I drilled kana/some kanji and I know how to string a sentence together. I could maybe make a mediocre/annoying clown and barely avoid starving and making GBS threads in the street for want of a bathroom if I were just dropped in Japan. edit: I was able to read kana well enough to stumble through the player shop on PSO2 when the english patch just stopped working for a while a couple years ago.
