I kind of suspect with all the new horror monsters and evil creatures coming in the DLC we might see a Cult crisis like that event.

I don't know what the requirements are but there is an event where a Historian hands you a history of the company's exploits.

Another Historian event:

Fear the power of Davkul!

I had that event once but instead of summoning a horde of beasts it summoned a bunch of spirits that had sex with my entire company, boosting everyone's morale to like 100%.

And as has been mentioned, until the expansion sword mastery is almost entirely the best melee specialization (after sprinkling in a couple hammers). Unless you have a dude with ten billion fatigue who you can make your designated flail / spikechain rear end in a top hat.

Might still be afterwards, even, but it'll be more viable to toss in some other stuff.

Also cultists, also the mentioned historian events.

But yeah, I like their (stated, in this devblog update!) dedication to the concept. Someone earlier in the thread said that what makes your company famed hardasses is that your response to the skeletal armies of NotRome rising from the grave is "Right, lads, stow the spears and bows and switch to flails and axes".

I'm making an effort to finish my current run before the expansion (I don't think there'll be a problem); I'm on the third crisis, after which I can retire for the top merc fame achievement, I'm pretty sure. I really like the dev team's commitment to the game's setting and keeping everything in line with it. Although I wouldn't object to a little Black Company/Malazan inspiration where wizards do exist, but they're insanely powerful and destructive and you'd never seriously try to fight one. besides necros of course

I shelved this game for two months for multiplayer stuff with friends. It was the farthest I had ever got, and right away four of my best guys died then the whole company got murdered by an orc warlord. Great game 10/10 I can’t wait for the expansion.

The Lindwurm armors you get from regular sources of unique armor, they're just immune to lindwurm acid. This has a good chance of changing with the expansion pack since they're adding the ability to craft armor from other beasts' parts.

What's the consensus on fighting against dudes with shields? Is it worth attempting to break the shield (risking higher damage from double grip; and wasting turns) or should you just try and batter through?

Depends on the enemy imo. For low-risk enemies like bandits I usually don't bother, though I will totally break a bandit leader's shield if I'm trying to shank them for their armour. For orcs I never do it because it means they deal way too much damage when they land hits, and their low melee defence means even with the shields it's usually not a big deal to land hits on them.

For noble company guys, I usually don't because there are just so many shields and I don't bring that many axes. I might break one or two as a way to punch a hole in their line, but it takes long enough that the rest of the fight is happening while I'm doing that.

Really the only enemy I reliably go in looking to break their shields are ancient dead, because the shield skeletons aren't that threatening even with double grip, their shields reliably break in just one or two hits, and you want to get at their polearm wielders as fast as you can because just a couple hits from them will murder even heavily-armoured bros.

So usually I don't bother because I find the enemies for whom it's worthwhile usually have tough enough shields (and sometimes shield mastery) that it takes too long, and a lot of other enemies I would rather let keep their shields. Skeletons are the big exception, and there are some uncommon cases where enemies have high enough melee defence that it's a huge pain to kill them through a shield, like knights.

I agree, and would add that I like letting humans and orcs keep their shields so they waste their AP and fatigue on Shieldwalling.

I think it depends a lot where in the game you are too, because if you have a few bros with a high melee skill your hit chances are usually high enough that you'll hit through shields most of the time anyway, but in the early game where you can't hit poo poo, smashing a shield has a little more utility.

Got a few achievements tonight. 2 of which I alt+f4'd the battle. Good god, just 4 necrosavants butchered a company that stood up to the greenskin hordes. It wasn't even that they were super strong, it's just that they never stayed still and all my guys got wore out trying to chase the fuckers down at the end. With my upcoming crisis being undead, I decided to say gently caress that noise and retire. At least my company survived!

So I recently did the ambition to fight another mercenary company since I've never done that one before but it wasn't during the Noble War and now I have two towns hostile to me. What ways are there to remedy that? I've never had to deal with this as my last long Iron Man game I had the Noble Crisis last and immediately retired since I just did the triple crown.

On the bright side the abandoned fortress I just attacked that was 26 enemy mans of just Wiedergangers and Nachs landed me two uniques including a spiffy Lindwurm armor. So I got that going for me.

So all this talk of BB got me to start a new campaign. It took me an hour and a half of troubleshooting a number of errors. Here are the solutions in case anyone else has these problems.

Error 1) When I start a fight the game crashes due to a "Persistence log error". The reason this happens is the autosav file cannot be found. Either delete the file or check if it has been hidden.

Error 2) Game runs incredibly slowly. Turn off vsync in options.

Error 3) Game is better, but still slow. Add your game to your antivirus's exceptions list.
