Her popularity dropped steadily for a couple of months, nothing too troubling because of her Congress super mayority, but then in June, someone in the prosecution office leaked audio tapes of an ongoing investigation of supreme judges (third instance judges and the ones who have the last word on Peruvian justice that does not involve constitutional rights); this tapes revealed a criminal organization inside the juditial branch that was both tied to criminals and politicians (because of their desire to stall or get rid of investigations such as Odebrecht's and narco cash that funded Fuerza Popular for the 2011 and quite possibly 2016 campaigns) for a month straight the news were releasing this tapes to the public, judges got suspended, judges got arrested and a couple of businessmen were arrested as links from the political parties to this criminal judges, this part is important. The CNM, the body in charge of selecting judges got dragged through the mud, because every single one of their members and some of their advisors were caught on tape trading favors, so the congress was charged with reorganizing it, they of course dragged their feet in an effort that would make Zootopia's bureaucrats blush, so PPK's vice president, now president, Martin Vizcarra surprised everyone by taking them head on and called for a referendum to settle the matter and also to tighten political party financing, ban congressmen reelection, and return congress to a bi-cameral system. The gamble payed off and Vizcarra's popularity soared, and Keiko's plummeted. Now is last Tuesday and one of the businessmen that were arrested and put on jail for 36 months got house arrest and the prosecution says that he gave them everything they asked for, backed by documents; so just as (Keiko's) Fujimorists are saying that they are not afraid of this, the very next morning Keiko gets arrested and everyone* celebrates as finally a big fish seems like it will face justice. *Everyone refers to 9x% of the population, they still have like a 4% approval rating. Because he was convicted by a blatantly partisan judge, on flimsy evidence (a single corrupt official's plea bargain and "common sense"), under an incredibly expedited and politicised judicial process that was being championed by some of the slimiest, incredibly more openly corrupt politicians, who are mostly either free, had their investigations blocked by congress, have had their investigations archived, or larger sentences commuted to a couple of years house arrest. Given the array of corrupt scum lining up against him, it's not really hard to see why people would support Lula's side.

A bit dry at times, butr sums up most of the important points. My only caveat is that he doesn't address that even PT's weaksauce reforms were already hailed by the press and conservatives as Mao-Stalinist overtures to make the whole country gay and communist, so trying anything harder left would have seen lefties shot on the streets and tanks rolling into Brasília to the applause of 100% of the media. This weekend AMLO will do a National Query to decide if the construction of the New Mexican City Airport (NAICM in Spanish) continues or if his proposal of refitting an old Military Airbase goes ahead. Every single study and specialist consulted agrees that the NAICM is the best option not only because is actually designed to tackle all the needs that will arise in the coming years but because there's been such an investment on it already that canceling it would be very bad for the country's finances. AMLO however, refuses to state a definitive posture about it and the query is quite frankly, very poorly planned, with few urns and localized at public plazas that will limit the assistance from the people. There's also rampant rumors about the whole thing being pushed by one of AMLO's sponsor that lost the contract to the NAICM and is pretty much throwing a fit, demanding the whole thing to be canceled plus AMLO's team including infamous individuals known by their acts on PRI's electoral frauds over the past two decades.

IMO, he doesn't have the balls to take the political cost of going with one decision or another (I believe he already made his decision). So he will shield it saying the people have chosen. That's poor governing if you ask me. I'm not saying that corruption should not be investigated in case it exists with this project, but nobody will invest in large scale projects if there's risk they are going to be cancelled after 3 years. Latin Americans Can't have nice things indeed.

AMLO's query starts today and boy, the testimonies of people who assisted to the urns today are very worrying: -Some urns weren't even set at the designated location -The urns that are set, lack any kind of privacy booth to cast your vote, you fill the ballot right there in front of everyone's eyes. -Unnumbered ballots -The measures set to avoid multiple votes are laughably useless. Washable ink and they capture your data in a webpage. -Volunteers have a bunch of promotional items (hats, shirts and so on) that put into question the $1.5 Million MXN budget. Such a great way for AMLO to start his administration
