Mouse family was cute, but otherwise agree. It's the first dud in a long time though. There was only one gag and way too much build up to it, but the art was cute as usual. Fumino and Uruka next week though, heck yeah

a spaceship with oars? that's a bit too much even on a dragon-themed spaceship, in a medium that often models spaceships on naval vessels.

I gotta hand it to Hiro. That is a badass looking spaceship. One thing you can always count on is his stuff looking good. I guess when you don't have to focus on telling an actual story or compelling characters, you have more time to polish your art.

So I fell off of UQ Holder around the time they introduced the girl that could use save points. Was that the video game immortal or did we ever get someone that has a stock/Life system as well? Was really interested in the ideas of multiple forms of immortality co-existing in the same setting.

He goes on to thank readers and SQ editors. SQ probably refers to Jump SQ, which is Jump's monthly magazine. That should be a lot better for Ashihara.

I skipped it when it was in Jump Alpha. It felt like it had this brilliant setting but the story was far more interested in staying on earth and doing endless mock battles rather than doing anything of actual import.

And world trigger is another of the hiatus Manga jump had so it kind of makes sense to put it there too as its quarterly and the writers or artists of those other two series also had health complications.

World Trigger has some of the best squad based fighting in any manga. You just gotta get through the first few chapters, but once it starts going, it really starts going.

I am so happy to hear World Trigger is coming back! I thought the author was basically permanently disabled. It is indeed really slow paced but the characters are all pretty memorable and the fights are fantastic. I was always excited when chapters came out and while not much happened in the over-arching plot yet, I feel like there was a hell of a lot still to explore if the setting ever switched over to the non-Earth worlds. I wish the anime was done by any other studio rather than Toei though...

Mikl posted:I never read World Trigger. How does it rate in comparison to other Jump manga? Pluses -probably some of the best team battles in all of shonen -pretty interesting protagonist who actually isn't some kind of unique battle genius with hidden superpowers. And no, he doesn't become one even 200 chapters in. Instead he is a dude with kinda mediocre level of talent, who's one saving grace is that he is fairly smart and a good tactical thinker (while being FAR from the best)....who happens to befriend an unique battle genius with hidden superpower in first chapter -the world-building and plot evolves fairly quickly from pretty cliched "extra-dimensional invaders attacked, here is a secret organization that defends earth from them" into story that's basically all about politics and intrigue with no clear bad guy. -actually pretty good at letting women be competent and do stuff that matters -little to no fan-service Minuses -kinda slow and weak beginning -there is shitload (I'm talking 100+ here) of side characters and the manga's art-style does a pretty bad job at distinguishing them from each other. -pretty huge part of the story so far is basically training arc with mock battles, and while it has some really good team battles and character development, there is no avoiding the fact that the whole thing is pretty low stakes and its the part where above flaw of too much too samey-looking characters is most apparent. -the author has some pretty serious health problem, so breaks between chapters and hiatuses are probably to be expected. For what is worth I really liked World Trigger and am super happy that the author managed to recover enough to continue with it.

ConanThe3rd posted:I skipped it when it was in Jump Alpha. i like world trigger but i still agree with this. what's more, their endless mock battles were against other squads when none of their actual duties would ever involve fighting against similarly equipped humans. so, the bulk of the manga was completely pointless.

I agree that the rank battles are most of the manga and aren't very applicable to what their job will ultimately be, but I also agree that the battles are hella cool so I'm fine with watching more battles. I don't remember a drat thing about what was going on in the story or the battles last time it was running though, so I'm gonna have to reread or sink/swim.

Yay!! I really liked World Trigger and thought it was definitely dead, so this is great news. ConanThe3rd posted:I skipped it when it was in Jump Alpha. The mock battles were good enough that I'd read an entire series of World Trigger mock battles, though. I really like the way it does combat, and how the protagonist legitimately doesn't have any bullshit abilities. Even the "ace" characters aren't generally capable of single-handed owning multiple people at the same time. One of my favorite parts is when one of the invader guys with a black trigger is defeated by a bunch of normies just using a strategy. I also really like the character designs for some reason. The setting itself isn't very interesting (it heavily suffers from "it makes no sense that such an important thing as 'a portal to other words' only seems to involve this one Japanese organization", and a lot of aspects of the setting just fundamentally being illogical, but it's still really entertaining). gimme the GOD drat candy posted:i like world trigger but i still agree with this. what's more, their endless mock battles were against other squads when none of their actual duties would ever involve fighting against similarly equipped humans. so, the bulk of the manga was completely pointless. This isn't true; they will have to fight black trigger wielding humanoids from some of the other worlds in that weird dimension I forget the name of. Not too long into the manga it reaches the point where the monstrous enemies are just sorta shock troops. Ytlaya fucked around with this message at 05:44 on Oct 15, 2018 |

gimme the GOD drat candy posted:it was the first time that had ever happened and those invaders used both radically different weapons from earth and the usual drone army. Yeah, I suppose, though that comes back to the "the setting is fundamentally pretty illogical" thing (it's also not clear if they have any good way to train against the sort of things they were fighting before, so fighting each other is at least better than nothing). Like, "why is the world being protected by some random Japanese teenagers" applies to a lot of manga/anime, but it's especially bad in this situation (since it makes no sense that there isn't huge world interest and involvement in this). edit: I'm mostly curious to just see how the protagonist continues to develop, since so far they've actually stuck to the "he has no exceptional talents outside of being an above-average strategist" characterization. Last I recalled he was using these cables to trip people up. It's actually kinda funny that his teammates are the ones with the bullshit abilities (like sniper girl who would be absurdly overpowered if she didn't have the phobia of shooting people, and is still pretty overpowered since can use this weight-shots at full speed). Oh yeah, there was also the guy who was with the enemies and was going to join the protagonist's team or something? I forget the details on that since it's been so long. they don't even give a reason why it had to be teenagers, or why parents were okay with their children joining a paramilitary organization. adults can use triggers just fine! still, it's got some great fights.
