I read a bit of Reincarnated Slime, right up to where the translation quality fell off a cliff. At least by that point there was no rape.

The translation quality is mostly great throughout, maybe you found a bad batch of scans? Iirc there were a couple dodgy chapter scanlations but otherwise it's been good. Now, the series about a kid being sold to a demon by his parents and being enrolled in demon school, that is a series with terrible scanlations for most of the translated chapters

Also, tragically, Flying Witch. They're so awful I can't stand to read it, even though I loved the anime.

Captain Invictus posted:it would be cool if goblin slayer was added to the list of series verboten from being talked about in adtrw imo, the only thing it ever does is stir the pot and get people to go "well yeah there's rape, but..." the thing is, it's actually worse than most bad anime, because there's actually stuff to like about Goblin Slayer. the idea of "low-level" creatures actually being a threat to regular people is not a terrible one for a fantasy story. the title character himself is legit loving hilarious, what with him being basically Charlie from Always Sunny transplanted into a fantasy world as an RPG-ish warrior. but holy god the rape and the fascist undertones. but as a result of those first things, it will basically never fall off the radar and it will basically always have fans. it's like some kind of funhouse-mirror Made in Abyss from the depths of hell.

also oh my god did i read that right, did they seriously release it without any kind of loving content warning i... kind of feel like that story's going to develop some more given that CR is huge with weeb kids. like, if they didn't tag it mature in any way, that show probably loving traumatized some actual children who usually go on CR to watch stuff like Dragon Ball Super and Boruto.

A good point someone else made in the gassed thread was that we drove the European Wolf to near extinction for eating the occasional sheep.

Yeah, the concept is dumb because the "low level" is just injecting lovely rpg assumptions into a fantasy world where it doesn't make sense.

The big excuse for it is that all of the high-level adventurers are off fighting in some gigantic war against the generic "Demon King" thing.

Giving something credit for a simple high concept idea never really makes sense to me. Story concepts are such a dime a dozen process, and involves very little talent. The real talent lies in realizing a concept. The low level enemies being deadly thing is like, is like very basic too. If you are really in love with that idea so much just run a tabletop game. Because then you will be in a good company with a lot of terrible DMs who love the idea just as much.

"We didnt take this threat seriously enough because our strongest forces are fighting a war elsewhere against a bigger threat" is something the start of Helck did better recently anyway.

So really, the story fails to make anything but goblins a serious threat to the frontier which is why just treating goblins like a minor pest makes no sense. If they had actual dragons and stuff running around as well it would prove the claim. Snooze Cruise posted:Giving something credit for a simple high concept idea never really makes sense to me. The only way they'd know is if they had googled it beforehand. Anyways, I probably don't need to go into why I think anything the manga's done has been done better elsewhere. I will just say that instead of reflecting a D&D game like it was intended to, it feels more like FATAL. RatEarth fucked around with this message at 00:17 on Oct 16, 2018 |

they added a warning sometime between the first and second episodes airing, and also have a secondary warning within the episodes now. and without going back into the replies on the related tweets, i'm gonna assume they're more mobbed by people angry that the warning exists than happy that it was added at all.

They got into a lot of hot water, to the point where they (thankfully) added a content warning before the first episode. Unfortunately the damage was already done to a lot of people, and the usual suspects are mad that they added a CW at all.

Is Hirotsu really dead here? There isn't much narrative reason to keep him alive, and that last panel looked pretty brutal, but BSG is weirdly reluctant to kill off characters named after authors. I guess Gogol's death sets a precedent for it, though.

I was going to put this in the slice of life thread but mangadex classifies it as seinen, so I guess it goes here. I just discovered and caught up with Arte, a manga about a Renaissance noblewoman who wants to become an artist, and so severs ties with her disapproving family in order to apprentice with the only painter in Florence willing to have a female assistant. I almost stopped near the start because it seemed preoccupied with her having a crush on her master, but that stops after a few chapters and I enjoyed her facing and overcoming tribulations dealing with the stigma of being a woman trying to break into art. https://mangadex.org/title/17189/arte
