But this, this is a loving GIANT NEON SIGN that they put the texture in upside down, all they'd have to do to fix it is open up the texture in Ifranview or something select "invert" and save. So it's not labor or complexity keeping it from being fixed. The only reason I can think of that the sign is upside down is that nobody even bothered to look at it before the truck stop went out to backers.

i've seen this with myself even. i collect retro games & consoles. often im happy just collecting, setting up the consoles, getting the best cables, mods and switches etc. i spend quite some money on that. once the poo poo is up and running im like “okay what to buy next??“

Part of my bitterness at CIG is them being unable to do anything reasonably functional and enjoyable so I can get straight to griefing. In one sense they've done a huge part of the hard work by collecting all the people who most deserve to suffer and put them all in one game. Now they just have to layer on a game so I can get to ramming, blocking doors, stranding commandos, and derailing trains.

We're well into that funny area now where the backers are taking any win they can wrest, even if they have to manufacture it. We have literally tens of thousands of pages of posts detailing, far better than anyone at CIG ever has, what the problems are with this game. Yet now, we're being retconned into being people who said that "CIG will never be able to make anything at all" so that citizens can point to a single pixel that happens to be in the right place, and then declare us "wrong."

That's how far this has devolved. They don't care if CIG makes the game. They're now focused on the only win they can have - being right about a technicality. The last refuge of an idiot.

This came up a lot when mining was introduced as an "amazing new feature" but was walled off behind a single spaceship purchase. The only part of the active community left are the whales, and they don't want the thousands of dollars they spent of JPEG's devalued by peasants earning the same autism chariots in-game. They'll come up with various circular arguments to try to distract from it in the hopes of not turning off newcomers, but in reality they know that SC is beyond "pay to win" its "pay hundreds to engage in integral aspects of gameplay" and they all hope that this never changes.

I think it's really interesting that in 4 years we've gone from "Well obviously they'll turn the cash shop off after the in-game store is ready, they have all the money they'll ever need" to "they can't turn off the cash shop, they need the funds!" Reality is completely mutable for these people as long as it supports their current position.

Yes. All of this. Now expand the horizons beyond the 'Star Citizen' thing and you have a really good examination of the wider problem we have with claimed expertise and the wisdom of crowds.

It gets most tedious when you see the same patterns arising over and over again, because the dimwits doing the vocalizing haven't run in to what logical fallacies actually are. For example: "They said it couldn't be done" is a strawman argument. If they used a specific instance of someone saying that something could not be done, and *yet is done*, they have a much better chance of 'rubbing' anyone's nose in anything.

Edit: It's one of the reasons that it's really to ignore BlueGoblin posts, as he's engaging in meta-conversation about an idea that he alone holds, and the only way to describe that idea is through mediation of other people. eg 'Your vision is not the same as mine and is therefore false', or generally solipsistic. That's either a really broken human, or a politician. The difference being that one group works for free.

Fun thing is that the marketing and astroturfing horizon looks functionally similar to a bunch of broken humans, or at least enough to fool around a third of the people.

The whole Star Citizen defense squad that trots out whenever even some mild criticism is posted on some obscure corner of the internet, is one of the more entertaining things about the whole social phenomenon known as Star Citizen. It really is baffling to me how these people can think that anything they post on the internet can change the reality of the broken mess CIG continues to add to. Like once they win the flame war against Derek and his dreaded hordes of GOOONS! somehow Star Citizen will be good. Maybe on some level they realize that CIG needs more money to stay afloat and pushing a positive narrative will keep the whales spending and maybe dredge up new rubes, sort of like the crypto-currency crowd. But, with Star Citizen there is so much Techno-Cult insanity layered on top of itself, that its hard to understand the remaining community from any rationale perspective. To these people, the game is their salvation from a mundane and unfulfilling life.

So if Neo wants to buy a candy bar in the Matrix he should phone home and do it on Morpheus's ship ATM?

I don't think it's really that crazy. He doesn't want the cash store shoved in face and integrated into the game UI. He doesn't want a premium currency only available for real money. He wants purchases to be DLC and something external to the game - now where it does get crazy is if he's ok with buying in-game credits in the store. But it's a perfectly sane idea that cash stores need to be separate from the game and not some junk you get shoved in your face if you fat-finger the keyboard - or even worse something that gets shoved in your face everytime you want to do some normal in-game activity like buy missiles or fuel.

Even for games with "ethical" micro-transactions I dislike that kind of spammy store. It's also bad for people with restraint/gambling problems, who can deal with an out-of-game (or strongly separated) store much better than one that is integrated and shown constantly.

If Neo wants the new gun skin he needs to jack out of the Matrix and buy it from the ship vending machine for $22. He shouldn't have Agent Pusher ask him if he wants to buy it for 200 Red Pills or 1000000 Blue Pills, with an option to immediately charge his credit card $20 for 180 Red Pills or $100 for 920 Red Pills (BEST VALUE!).

Fun thing is that the marketing and astroturfing horizon looks functionally similar to a bunch of broken humans, or at least enough to fool around a third of the people.

I'm also getting the distinct impression that it's not just backers playing that game, but CIG themselves. They're manufacturing custom demo maps that showcase a "feature" that they're currently under fire for not being able to get done. Then they show it as if to silence that criticism. Planets are a good example - they got a lot of poo poo for not being good enough to do it. Suddenly, they have them. And they - sort of function, but only in the context of proving people wrong. They're not smooth, interesting, properly functioning playable areas, but the cheapest possible Potemkin-village iteration that adds nothing and is filled with bugs. There's no orbits, rotation, day/night or any of that poo poo - a "Tier-0" of planets. Certainly nothing that can be built on.

But it's there, therefore all doubters are wrong and the game will happen. I still have no idea how the first statement flows into the second, but for stupid people they certainly seem to take that causality as a matter of fact.
